Posted August 28, 20222 yr @1561764607915884549 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0ctr5zb In the interview Louise says "the plan is to do a Greatest Hits". I assume she means next year - the presenter spoke over her answer but she goes on to mention how next year is the 30th anniversary of Eternal's first single 'Stay'. "A celebratory album with lots of new music, lots of reimagined music, going back to the Eternal days" - so maybe some solo re-recordings of her Eternal hits then? I do wonder if an Eternal reunion is ever on the cards, but if Louise goes through with this release, then I guess it doesn't look promising for Eternal. It's such a shame how Eternal have become a bit of a foot note in the history of UK girl groups even though they were actually incredibly successful. Louise performs a really lovely cover of Janet Jackson's 'Together Again' in her recent sets, so I'd be happy if she recorded a studio version of it.
August 28, 20222 yr Together Again is a BOP!! Eternals only had like one #1 though... She should release Besutiful Inside or Pandora's Box again to promote it! Both deserved no.1.
August 28, 20222 yr Eternal may have had only 1 number 1 single but they a few big hits and some big selling albums.
August 28, 20222 yr But in the list of biggest girl bands, they barely rank! The UK list is something like: 1. Spice (2 if you include A Sisters, who were before records)) 1. Andrews Sisters 3. All Saints 4. Girls Aloud 5. Sugababes 6. Destiny's Chils 7. Bananrama 8. TLC 9. The Supremes 10. Eternals Abba would be no.1 if included. Just not particularly high! And if I included Bewitched, Atomic Kitten and Saturday they'd be even lower!!! That's why they're not remembered much and are overshadadowed by Louise's solo hits.
August 28, 20222 yr She's only released one album since the last Greatest Hits, an album which didn't contain hits at that.
August 28, 20222 yr Author In the UK, Eternal’s first three albums & Greatest Hits were all platinum or multi-platinum (with the debut most notably being the first British girl group album to sell over a million copies). They achieved 15 consecutive Top 20 hit singles from 1993 to 1999, which was a record for a girl group until Girls Aloud overtook them in 2007. Eternal even achieved a US Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 hit with Stay. Even though Eternal only had one #1 single (I Wanna Be the Only One), it was massive - 600,000 sales (platinum) in 1997. Eternal definitely have the credentials to be considered one of the biggest UK girl groups. I think the problem for them is that they’ve been out of sight, out of mind for a very long time. I don’t think most of the public automatically think of Eternal when they see Louise. Kéllé has had a very decent career in TV but she’s not a huge name to the extent of keeping Eternal’s name out there. The Bennett sisters stepped out of the limelight. They’ve never attempted a reunion under their own steam. The 3 piece (without Louise) reunited briefly for The Big Reunion series 2 in 2014 but that series wasn’t as successful as the first, so it ultimately didn’t lead anywhere. I think if they announced a reunion as a full line up, Louise would bring media attention to it. I guess if it doesn’t happen next year then it never likely will.
August 28, 20222 yr Author She's only released one album since the last Greatest Hits, an album which didn't contain hits at that. Well look at Steps, they released zero albums & singles between two different Greatest Hits releases, that were only 10 years apart! And a third this year even though it includes just one more Top 40 hit than the previous two. So I wouldn’t think it really matters that Louise has only released one album since her last GH or had no new hits. (Although Pandora’s Kiss would count!) This proposed new Louise Greatest Hits would come 22 years after the last one. Undoubtedly it would be a 1 week wonder at best & mainly aimed at her fanbase buying multiple formats, but that’s probably enough to justify its existence and her doing the promotional rounds for it. At least it appears that she intends to put effort into making it quite different to her last GH.

Xxxxx --- I can imagine her doing something quite similar to James Morrison's last GH album. I think it'd work for her and if she could get slots on The ONE Show/This Morning etc.. that'd be cool for her.
August 28, 20222 yr Releasing a Greatest Hits album would also be a good way to bring attention to her backcatalogue and the fact that she's had quite a few hits in her day. I don't think it matters much that she already has one. It's also a smart way to get her streaming numbers up as I could potentially see them being able to get some of her old hits on retro playlists. Edited August 28, 20222 yr by tommie
August 28, 20222 yr I think its good she will release a greatest hits especially when its so long since her last one, plus to be fair to her she had 9 top 10 hits and 3 further top 20 hits outside of her time with Eternal.
August 28, 20222 yr It sounds like she is following in the footsteps of Heather Small. Edited August 28, 20222 yr by Voodoo
August 29, 20222 yr I genuinely read this as Louisa at first and was shook that she'd become so big since I stopped following UK charts
August 31, 20222 yr Author i honestly have to give her props - i dunno why she even bothers Why shouldn't she?
September 1, 20222 yr Author That’s not a reason for Louise to not bother with her career as a whole though. She has a long-standing passion for performing and being a recording artist, and she’s clearly in the position to be able to carry on with this as her career regardless of the levels of commercial success, so why give up? I’m sure Louise and everyone involved in her career have sensible expectations as to how well she’ll do. She mustn’t have had a tremendous budget for her last album or the tour, but she got a #11 album and Radio 2 support, and not everybody gets that. So she’s in a nice position to continue.
September 23, 20222 yr Author View this post on Instagram Yesterday was 25 years since the release of her UK #4 hit Arms Around the World! The above clip on Instagram is a newly recorded version of it. Sounds great!
September 24, 20222 yr Good for her it's nice to have her back, i enjoyed her comeback album this new greatest hits sounds interesting As for Eternal i think the only track you still hear by them on radio is I Wanna Be The Only One which was a No.1 all the other songs seem to be forgotten

September 25, 20222 yr Crazy how much Eternal are forgotten. Just A Step, Oh Baby I, Power of a Woman, I Am Blessed etc. still all sound amazing to me. If Louise is releasing a Greatest Hits, which will probably include some Eternal songs, kind of takes away some hope of Eternal coming back for a reunion with a Greatest hits.
