If nominations need 100 MP votes to run for contest, that will likely work against Boris even being able to run, let alone win. Or at least I think so. I'm not sure he could get the support of 100 MPs given everything that's happened.

Initial MPs nomination information have him in the lead with 36 nominations ahead of Sunak's 26 so don't count on him missing it. More than enough loons in the Parliamentary party.

Boris Johnson will surely return as PM unfortunately, I can't see any other outcome. Sadly the reasons he was ousted can be all too easily forgiven and forgotten - if anything, the last few months will have strengthened his case in the eyes of many who will be casting the votes, and they can claim he still has the mandate from the last GE.

I seriously hope not. He was a horrific pm and should never have been elected as pm. He is vile and full of empty promises, lies and bullshit. The only glimmer of light from him being re-elected is it will hopefully be the icing on the cake for the Tories and an end to 12 terrible years of conservative government.

To be honest, I think it's far better he gets in and loses for the Tories rather than someone more competent like Mordaunt or Sunak. Completely destroy his legacy by defeat in the General Election rather than him being this "big beast" who becomes this legendary hero who can run again in future.

I've been asked if ppl can tone down the swearing a bit please- I know this is ironic coming from me in the past few days, but still - try to avoid unnecessary swearing if at all possible.

and on that topic-

Boris is the only person I can see, which is an absolute joke. Someone you had no faith in just a few months ago can just weasel back in because someone else was worse?

There’s too much division I think for anyone else to be counted upon to have that much support :/

-_-

I am NOT a centrist!!! I am a leftist, and I am immune to the centrists' propaganda, unlike you. Sorry bout it!

Well that's something we're agreed on but seeing how a left-wing party produced the report you must agree with it :)

I found it funny that "I am a fighter, not a QUITTER" was a labour party quote... maybe we should put Liz truss in a failed prime ministers boxing match

Liz (The Market Gravedigger) VS Boris (The Economy Butcher)

Isn’t Boris still under investigation how can he possibly go for it again while that is happening?

Yes, he is still under investigation. Imagine if he is re-elected and then found guilty.

Dear god I hope so that would be perfect and put the Tory party in the graveyard!

Just a few months ago, dozens of ministers resigned because they had lost confidence in the rancid binbag of custard. None of them can return to a government led by that blob of flesh without appearing completely ridiculous. That would make it very difficult for de Pfeffel to form a government.
Be interesting to see what happens if there is a 4-way split- the summer contest first round had a leader on just 88 votes (Sunak). You could argue- if nobody commands 100 in the first round, we should just bin it and have a General Election.
I thought Boris Johnson would return someday as his hero is Churchill who was similar he kept making comebacks too no matter how many mess ups he made.(although I figured he would return in the 2030s when the cycle had returned to the tories again) The scary thing is I could see Johnson winning a GE as well. Maybe this will divide the tories more and it’ll be all our civil war meaning a GE is inevitable?

John Curtis just said on ch4 news he doesn’t think Johnson can get 100 MPs so I will go with him!
I think he will - there doesn't seem to be any momentum for the likes of Braverman and Badenoch (wisely as they would make Truss seem like Ms Popularity,l especially Braverman) so the hard right will go ahead and nominate him like they did Truss (especially as anonymous). Then add the loyalists to him who think he's their best bet electorally.
They need a unity candidate - Johnson gives them the best way of getting to a GE win in 2024/2025, but I just don't feel there is a unity candidate. If they get Johnson, I don't think they will increase Party discipline and was he even that popular as a person with the electorate? Major problem this time is the cost of living crisis and unless Johnson did something majorly populist, I just don't think they can survive.
