Think there’s still a fair bit of life left in it yet

I guess it could overtake Lewis Capaldi on the chart this week and get back to #3 but it's not gonna overtake the top 2. Time for a swift ACR methinks.

I would welcome One Republic overtaking Lewis Capaldi.

well, Lewis and OneRep are virtually tied on Spotify today

OneRep is 10K ahead today but Lewis was 20K ahead the day before

plus Lewis is ahead on Amazon, Apple, itunes, Youtube,... so Lewis looks safe to me for #3

If someone had said to me prior to release who would have the bigger Top Gun film hit out of Gaga and OR my money certainly wouldn’t have been on OR! Love that it’s doing so well.

^^ Same here the Gaga song has gone long ago, shows that the better songs generally do better in the charts these days!

I actually think both songs are terrible, the Gaga song sounds like a Bon Jovi b-side from Slippery When Wet

while as it has been said a million times the One Republic song it's the least original song ever and a pastiche of Portugal the Man

Haven’t just listened to it it’s actually rather good

as it turns out, this 'Miss You' song is a remix of his 2020 song "Jerk" by Southstar, who then sold it to Robin Schulz. so basically both of the credited artists involved had very little to do with the song in its current form. :lol:

 

(and now that I look at the Spotify chart it seems the Southstar version is also new in at #116)

I presume you mean ‘Jerk’ by Oliver Tree?

what I mean was, "Jerk" was by Oliver Tree, Southstar did a remix of it titled "Miss You" released under his own name (in at #116 today), then bizarrely it seems Oliver Tree has now released the exact same song* as the Southstar remix under his own name with Robin Schulz also credited.

 

*not even exaggerating, just listen, the only difference is the Robin Schulz version seems to have been mixed and mastered more professionally.

What a bizarre story! Apparently (according to people on Oliver Tree’s sub), Southstar is very annoyed at the whole situation, accusing Schulz of “stealing” his song. But also that it’s not Oliver’s fault.

 

That being said, the Schulz ‘remaster’ is much better than the original unfortunately.

I read about the southstar controversy back when the Schulz "version" was released, unless it's an elaborate publicity stunt that they're both in on it's quite astonishing that Schulz had the audacity to release that and act as if it's not blatantly stolen, he didn't even change the title

 

I believe the southstar version uses a soundalike for the vocals while the Schulz one was able to clear the sample from the Oliver Tree song (hence Oliver being credited on it) but yeah the instrumental is essentially if not literally identical apart from being 'cleaned up' a bit. I personally prefer the more gritty low budget sound of the original anyway, I think it suits the vibe of the song better (love the music video too, especially the part where they deface a building with 'fuck copycats' :P) - not that the Schulz one sounds bad, it is after all nearly identical.

 

Glad that the original has entered the chart too but that is disappointing that it's behind the Schulz one as last time I checked it still had the higher stream total (and I remember it appearing in the Spotify viral chart before too).

So the big question being how will the OCC work this? Will they combine both versions or have it as 2 separate entries?

If combined, it should certainly chart this week

Damn, I'd had this in mind for BJSC next month. I'll never get it through after how Eliza Rose blew up :lol:

 

But yeah this is a great track and has been big in Germany already. I could see it being a Rain Radio style hit maybe, unless the Schulz version is bigger here.

 

They sound almost exactly the same...either though has good 90s vibes, but I think the Southstar version has a less annoying vocal. Not me preferring the one destined to do worse in the chart. Just like how I preferred Cabin Crew to Sunset Strippers back in 2005 :lol:
