The one that stands out to me since I've been following the charts would be the first week success of 'Golden'. Following the disappointed 29k that 'Kiss Me Once' opened with (compared with 79k for 'Aphrodite' four years prior), I figured that would be the ceiling of Kylie's success from that point onward, so for 'Golden' to opened with nearly 20k more was a big surprise. I know there were more formats and vinyl was making a comeback but, even considering that, it was clear there was a lot more interest in this album and it marked the start of a new Kylie wave of highs which she is still riding on now.
I Believe In You felt like such a big song at the time but it feels like in later years, it's not as popular unlike something like 'All The Lovers' (which i've never liked) has always maintained it's popularity,

Some of my standout ones -

Never Too Late -

Up until this point Kylie has released 7 singles which had charted at 1-2-2-2-1-1-2 so when NTL reached #4 it felt like a bit of a :o moment even though a Top 5 is a massive achievement it at the time just felt like an underperformance off the back of such a strong start.

Word Is Out -

After 13 consecutive Top 6 hits to miss the Top 10 and Top 15 and reach #16 with a single felt massive, especially as it didn’t hang around for long (5 weeks in the charts)

Keep On Pumpin’ It -

I hated this blip on Kylie’s chart history at the time as it only peaked at #49 - yes it’s not a ‘real’ Kylie single and was a bit of a PWL cash in hoping to benefit off the back on club play but I hated that she was credited on a flop single.

Put Yourself In My Place -

After CIM restored Kylie to the upper end of chart glory I was really disappointed this stalled at #11, I loved this at the time and still do and it felt like it was going to be a bigger hit than it was in the run up to it being released.

Some Kind Of Bliss -

Discussed at length already in the previous thread but it was unheard of for a lead single to miss the Top 10, let alone the Top 20.

Spinning Around -

The shock at this going to #1, I loved it but had lower expectations for it after the Deconstruction era - it was also the days before mids were easily available so it was total suspense where it would enter.

Slow -

Another surprising #1 for me, I didn’t particularly like it when it was released (I love it now), I duly went out and bought all the formats but didn’t expect it to be troubling the #1 position

Santa Baby -

I wasn’t a fan of it when it was released and am not the biggest fan of it now but duly support its streams each festive period, never expected a Kylie b-side to take off or to make the Top 40 and become a million seller

The One -

Parlophone essentially dumped this prior to release and sort of chucked it out, to think this came close to missing the Top 40 totally when it should have been a massive hit :drama:

Better Than Today -

After the ‘Aphrodite’ era started so well I expected more for this off the back of the albums success and the XF performance. I wasn’t expecting it to be huge but certainly a Top 20 hit rather than stalling at #32.

Dancing -

Such a joyous moment to see Kylie secure a Top 40 single - something that I feared we wouldn’t see again!

From a positive the huge opening sales of can't get you out of my head was a huge shock in a great way, I never expected them to be so high.

Into the blue - missing the T10 after initially appearing in the early midweeks at no9 and being the lead single from

KMO

Never too late - Missing the T3 after her first 6 singles all made T2.

Can’t get you out of my head - Storming to no1 with sales of 306k. I’m not surprised it reached no1 but I was shocked by the amount it sold.

Put yourself in my place - Missing the T10 on the back of the incredible CIM single.

Word is out - Only peaking at 16 after such a successful run of T10 singles and being the lead single from let’s get to it

I don't know if I've been overly surprised by anything since I've been following (2000)

I certainly didn't expect 'Chocolate' to be as high as #6 the week it was released, although given how it dropped down the chart like a brick it's neither here nor there. With 'Dancing' I didn't think she'd ever have another top 40 single so I was overjoyed about that.

With 'The One:, given how they cancelled the physical release like 3 days beforehand (still not over it), I was shocked that even made the top 40. That definitely would have been top 10/top 15 if they'd just pressed ahead with it, gutting really.

Chocolate did really well getting to number 6 as I thought it could miss the top 10.

Never too late although her first to miss the top 2 felt fine at time for me as it still felt like a big hit.

Word is out was a shock missing the top 10 I was so disappointed although in truth I wasn't a big fan of the song then but convinced myself I did like it but it's a song I grew to really like over the years.

Into the blue missing the top 10 for some reason didn't really surprise me, I hoped it would go top 10 but the KMO era always felt half arsed to me.

Body Language going in at #6 actually shocked me at the time, I know that was a real bloodbath week where even Britney missed the top 10 and it sold OK in the end but I can imagine the label must have been PANICKING with how that album initially performed.

^^ This! Even though it opened with stellar sales you just know the team at Parlophone would have been sweating over the performance especially coming off the back of the previous era ‘Fever’ and the lead single ‘Slow’ reaching #1.

I was fairly disappointed with body language missing the top 5 and I was really hopeful for number 1 on the back of Fever and didnt expect any lower than top 3 so it was disappointing.

I kinda felt the same about X also missing the top 3.

Better than day was another shock for such a low peak for that time.

Seeing Can't Get You Out of My Head sell nearly 100,000 even in its fourth week was really impressive to me. It was obviously huge but I didn't realise how consistently high its sales were.
I kind of knew 'Better Than Today' wasn't going to set the world on fire at that point in the campaign, it was an extremely poor choice of single and there wasn't exactly much going for it aside from an X-Factor performance. Admittedly I didn't think it would be quite as low as #32 but I knew achieving top 20 was going to be a real struggle.

Was PYIMP supported by radio how was the promo?

One of her finest for me.

With put yourself in my place, i never felt it was going to go top 10, but the big surprise for me was its 2nd week climb from Number 17 to number 11 as i didnt expect that at all as i thought it would drop, it done well to have 4 weeks in the top 20 and it also achieved the same amount of week in the top 75 as confide in me managed.

Dannii

I Don’t Wanna Take This Pain

Even though it was 5th single from the album (which was the done thing back then), I was still surprised at how much it struggled and only just made the Top 40 at #40 after 4 consecutive Top 15 singles.

Loves On Every Corner

Danni’s first to miss the Top 40 at #44, it’s a decent song but released at totally the wrong time of year and got lost in the Christmas rush but did manage a month in the Top 75.

This Is It

Even though it’s a slice of glorious pop and I loved it I didn’t think it would make the Top 10 after she struggled with her previous singles - it was the days before midweeks so a pleasant surprise to see it so well

All I Wanna Do

Was obsessed with this when it was released and still love it now, it was in all the clubs at the time but I was shocked it managed Top 5 - I wanted it to do well but with such a up and down chart history and the fact she had been away for a while I didn’t know what it would achieve, it felt at the time that Dannii would have a bit of a revival but as we know her record label Eternal soon put a stop to that :drama:

Who Do You Love Now

Again, loved this but didn’t expect it to make the Top 3 so a welcome surprise - the instrumental and then the version with Danni’s vocal had done the rounds in the clubs but I think it’s success even took her label by surprise

I Begin To Wonder

The fact that this challenged for #1 was an exciting time, midweek info was scarce but I remember her mailing list sending out she was close to #1 and encouraging people to buy it, love that it was a big hit but still disappointed Dannii didn’t manage to snag a #1.

He’s The Greatest Dancer

Dropped by the label despite it doing well in the clubs after the CIN change to Emma Bunton as that years single, promo CDs had been sent out to radio and media, remixes had been commissioned etc., so I wish the label had still gone with giving it a release - I wonder if Dannii would have got a Top 10 out of it like Emma did with ‘Downtown’ had it ended up being the CIN single.

Touch Me Like That

We all know AATW were a bit of a mess when it came to marketing Dannii and her releases but I was shocked this missed the Top 40 and only got to #48 mainly due to the fact Dannii was so much in the public eye at the time with her slot on the X-Factor and they had roped in Jason Nevins - on paper the combination of the 2 should have sent it into the Top 20.

With 'I Begin to Wonder' I was shocked at her being midweek #2 but more shocked and delighted she actually held that position.

The 'Touch Me Like That' debacle was quite something... I remember Radio 1 making a big deal out of premiering it and I had such a good feeling about this assuming it'd also get an X-Factor performance. Then Radio 1 of course didn't playlist it, there was no X-Factor performance and by the time the release actually came around it was like it had been forgotten about entirely - least of all by her! It was so disappointing.

Oh, and I remember with 'You Won't Forget About Me' it was expected that the top 2 that week would be between her and Daniel Bedingfield's comeback single... of course neither of them came close in the end.

That was also a bit gutting, but I remembered going into HMV in London to buy the single on release day and it wasn't even there in the new releases wall - I had to actually ask a member of staff where it was and there were like 2 copies of it tucked away in the A-Z section. I kind of knew in that moment it didn't look hopeful. :(

Poor Dannii - always the bridesmaid when it came to record companies, marketing and support, I’m surprised with some of the decisions made on her releases and career that she achieved as much as she did.
