Biography

Pop-rock band OneRepublic have been consistent hitmakers of the 21st century, without ever sticking to a formula. A lot of that pop intuition and innovation starts with frontman Ryan Tedder, who began playing coffeehouses in Colorado in the late ’90s with high school buddies including guitarist Zach Filkins. When Tedder moved to Los Angeles a few years later, he reconnected with Filkins and together they formed OneRepublic in 2002. At the same time, Tedder was building his career as a songwriter, eventually writing and producing singles for artists like Leona Lewis, Hilary Duff, and Jennifer Lopez. But when it came to his own band, he’s said his goal has never been to write a hit, only to create genuine works of art: “It has to be a hundred-percent authentic and visceral to my human experience. If I haven’t felt it, if I didn’t go through it, if it’s not resonating with me, I can’t sing it,” Tedder told Apple Music. That straight-from-the-heart mentality is what ignites the straight-to-the-gut effect of OneRepublic’s greatest anthems, starting with their 2006 debut single “Apologize”—which eventually became a multiplatinum success—and later with even bigger songs like 2013’s propulsive folk-pop stomper “Counting Stars” and more diverse sounds such as 2016’s silvery synth groove “Kids.” As Tedder continues to rack up songwriting and production credits alongside Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Adele, and other chart-topping stars, he’s still saving up his hardest emotional punches for OneRepublic’s next global smash. - Apple Music

Biography

“I never really think, ‘OK, I’m going to write a song,’” Lewis Capaldi told Apple Music. “My creative process is basically: I sit down with a guitar and or at the piano, and I just start to write.” But the amazing thing about Capaldi is that he’s become one of the most popular young artists of his generation by preserving his songs in that raw, unvarnished state, to provide the purest representation of the pain and longing coursing through his lyrics. Amid the hyper-paced, totally wired world of late-2010s pop, this unassuming Scottish singer-songwriter and former Up Next artist—born 1996 in Glasgow—stopped the internet dead in its tracks with his DIY 2017 single “Bruises”, a stark, piano-based breakup ballad that introduced a voice imbued with the sort of soulful grit and deeply felt heartache you wouldn’t expect from a baby-faced 21-year-old. “Bruises” was Capaldi’s ticket to international major-label deals and tours opening for pop A-listers like Sam Smith and Niall Horan, but he would swiftly join their ranks with his equally rustic 2018 single “Someone You Loved”, another tear-jerking expression of sorrow—inspired by the death of his grandmother—that went to No. 1 in the US and UK, and has since become one of the most-streamed songs of all time. Those singles formed the foundation of Capaldi’s chart-topping full-length debut, 2019’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which fleshes out his sound with lush orchestration and gospel gravitas but, through songs like the suicide-themed “Before You Go”, retains his fearless flair for dredging up the messiest of emotions. - Apple Music

One of the worst chart hits this year :puke:

OneRepublic?

One of the beigest, blandest hits of the year perhaps but I don’t think it can contend for the worst of the year considering some of the other shit we’ve had.

The 3 year rule doesn't have anything to do with single status - the label can have the rule waived though which I presume they have in this case.

nope atm the label have no involvement as it charted before the 3 years. i presume that when it declines for 3 consecutivr weeks itll go strsight to permenant acr, same as what happened to mary on a cross

Lewis Capaldi is in The One Show I hope his performance is better than NTAs the sound team were terrible last night he looked so annoyed.
Just remembering people saying Forget Me would be number 1 for 9 weeks before its release. :P

Yes, OneRepublic. A load of trash. I actually felt sick listening to it just now

I don't think this is one of his best songs or anything but I do like it and has proven to grow a lot and the video is odd to say the least

Also boo bore Lacy getting a new peak and OneRep not moving. Definitely one of my least faves from them.

Pretty sure Ghost were actually prematurely shunted after only 2 declines. But Chris will be over 9 weeks anyway ofc.
