November 15, 20222 yr Weird to see that Peter Andre song so high. It's one of the more forgettable number 1s but by no means one of the 20 worst. It's a perfectly serviceable pop song.
November 16, 20222 yr Sorry I disappeared from this thread for its last few days, I fell off the grid a little with keeping up with the forum in general over the weekend and am still slowly catching up  Consider me somewhat baffled at the #1 - don't get me wrong, I'm not surprised that most people dislike it, but I wasn't aware of there being this much disdain for it nor do I think it deserves it. Perhaps I just have a penchant for absurdist humour (see also: 'The Chicken Song') but I actually think it is kind of funny, particularly the part where it edits the phrase 'stonk' into the archival audio clips of Forsyth, Bush, Kennedy and Armstrong, that has genuinely made me smile a bit every time I've listened to it (and I just went and voluntarily listened to it again in 'celebration' of its win here). And it's got a pretty decent tune to it too, swap it out for slightly less absurd lyrics and it wouldn't go undetected among any number of songs by Elvis et al. If anything I feel like I should have ranked it lower now and I was already its lowest ranker! So I guess its haters can be pleased that the result of this thread is me taking it under my wing as my new #1 guilty pleasure B-) On the other hand, I'll borrow a phrase from the commentary on 'The Stonk' that I think perfectly sums up my reaction to LadBaby in general: "a kind of skin-creeping sensation of shame and repulsion". The only positive things I have to say about them are I guess they made a good amount of money for charity, and it is sort of admirable how they literally just made the same joke that was never funny 4 years in a row and got huge numbers out of it each and every time. The quality of the actual recordings is god awful. Well, 'Don't Stop Me Eatin'' was slightly better than the other three (felt like it had marginally more effort put into it). I go back and forth on the ranking of my 2nd and 3rd 'favourites' but the worst of the 4 is definitely 'I Love Sausage Rolls', aside from being the same level of unfunny and sounding like shite (and being the worst song they chose to cover in its original form) it also has a frankly pretty disturbing level of innuendo for a song whose music video pretty clearly emphasises how it's a family group including a young child. But yanno. That song would have beaten 'The Stonk' here, change my mind xx JJ Barrie is too low. I'd try and write another equally rambling paragraph about how viscerally bad that song is but honestly I kind of just want to move on and forget it exists now. I am a little surprised Cliff is as low as #4 too (was in my top 10) but I can kiiiind of see the argument in defence of it. Though I still think it's garbage. Cliff had some good songs at least! Thanks Julian and Ed for all your efforts in running this, I can say I've enjoyed it with some level of sincerity since I seem to have a pretty generous opinion about a lot of these songs compared to most others
November 16, 20222 yr Thanks all for the kind comments! I’ll definitely take “surprisingly interesting” from someone as knowledgable as PCF - that’s gone straight in the signature! :D
