Insane sales on both counts.

Incredibly unlucky for Arctic Monkeys to lose their #1 streak despite having an album sell over 100k in 2022. :( :(

I wonder if Arctic have a chance of managing it next week?

Incredible an album is going to be at #2 with over 120,000 sales

In fact considering Harry opened with 113k, Arctics could end up with the second biggest opening figure of the year... and be on the one week it wouldn't be #1.

(Bre can I put in a very early nomination for 'The Car' to get a bonus play in the albums listenthrough, I think that's justified now lol  )

I'd fully expect Arctic Monkeys to be the more frontloaded of the two so I'd be shocked if they overtook next week.

there's also a new Drake album next week, isn't it?

Yeah, collab album with 21 Savage. Not sure how well it'll do here though.

Bloody hell that's crazy!

Out of interest, what did Taylor's last three albums open with? (asking about last three as 'Lover' is obviously the more comparable album) Apologies if they've already been posted, I've been away for a few days so just catching up on proceedings.

Posted this on the Taylor group last week actually:

1989 2014 = 90,000

Reputation 2017 = 84,000

Lover 2019 = 53,000

Folklore 2020 = 37,000

Evermore 2020 = 27,000

Fearless TV 2021 = 21,000

Red TV 2021 = 72,000

Wow those are mega sales for both acts especially AMs as I expected a muted return in terms of sales!
If those sales are true its brilliant and even more so in this climate, huge shame for the artcics to get a number on sales like that.
if the data is true, it means the pre-order for AM were huge and not far behind Taylor's

Thanks for those. If we're estimating her to finish on ~200k by Friday, that really is crazy! Given those previous opening sales, I don't quite understand how she's managing these numbers, it can't just be down to multiple formats? What on earth is going on?!

Honestly with how well this era is doing so far (#1 debut on Spotify for Mirrorball, album bomb, insane album sales for the current climate...) I wouldn't even be surprised if Arctics managed another #1 single if they ever put out another single more in line with the AM sound at this point.

Not that i'm saying they should do that, i'm delighted they are following a different sound and still having success with it. Just incredibly disappointing it won't be a #1 album on those sales.

I think it's totally down to the multiformatting

Folklore and Evermore didn't have physicials on week 1

and Red TV only had 1 vinyl I think?

This is the first Taylor release in which the multiformatting has been fully exploited in week 1 + also combined with signed stuff

and also the chance for tour tix, so kinda makes sense... she had 400,000 pre-orders of vinyls in the US alone

Even though it's difficult to believe considering she's on her 10th album and in the 16th year of her career, she is GROWING commercially - she is gaining younger fans and her long-time fans are growing up and spending even more on her music than we did when we were younger. It's amazing to see, and we don't even know if this is the peak of it.

Multiple, many formats + large enough stanbase to eat them all up + topped up by very impressive streams

I think it's believable with those factors.

It's not totally down to the multiformatting, this album is getting far more streams than her last couple as well. I guess having the album announced well in advance and constant promo/teasing (of literally anything except the actual music lol) for weeks worked to build up more anticipation. Plus with it being a return to her poppier sound that gives it a wider appeal to the general public than 'folklore' and 'evermore', as well received as those were by fans and critics. But even controlling for all of that, it's a very impressive improvement on 'Lover' - although that perhaps had some of its hype killed by the less than unanimously adored singles lol ~
I think it’s a combination of all those things mentioned in the last few posts. Plus she’s smart. She gained a lot of new fans and credibility with Folklore and Evermore, while keeping her old fan base and this new album is a culmination / progression from different sounds across a number of previous albums. I know I’m biased but it is a strong album. I think factor in the fact she continually delivers on strong albums, the different formats, strong and loyal fan base & ticket codes and she has struck gold.

Yeah, collab album with 21 Savage. Not sure how well it'll do here though.

Collab albums tend to do worse than solo ones so I wouldn't expect crazy numbers (although I think it's plausible it beats the opening of 'Honestly, Nevermind' just because that album was so uniquely outside the wheelhouse of what Drake fans actually want from him).

Not Massive being the best thing Drake has put out in ages but getting clowned on by his fans.

More utter shit to be expected next week then?
