"Make Britain Grow Again" - gosh, if the Brexit Party and the ultra-right wing element of the Conservatives get together, things will be carnage. If that wing of the party think Liz Truss is going to be voted as Prime Minister again, I seriously think not even the 20% who always vote Conservative will be stupid enough.

Yet again they're hoping people don't know which party has been in power for the last 13 1/2 years.

Rishi expected to announce the scrapping of the Manchester leg of HS2 tomorrow. Will apparently provide alternatives/more cost effective methods for the north. In other words, likely spending no money there.

It'll be a replacement bus service.

Peess is now reporting on him promising to fix beoken politics... when?! He's already in power!!! He is the broken politics!!!

I suspect the savings from scrapping HS2 (the important part of it, the bit that was actually going to lead to the greater amount of economic growth- particularly for the north of England) will be used to fund tax cuts for the wealthy for the forthcoming General Election. It's also just Sunak isn't very good at politics, surely the blowback from this was cause far more damage than any gains he's hoping for, not to mention it completely flies in the face of his 'difficult long term decisions' case when he's doing the exact opposite.

However, cost of borrowing for the Government continued to surge upwards in the last few days. He is Sunakkered and I am SO here for it blowing up in their faces.

I have no idea what they were thinking with this, not only does it back up which part of England gets favourable treatment, but given their dismal performance in polls all across the country, you'd think getting support up there would be useful!

All these policies are a nothing, predicated on them still being in power long enough to enact them, which they will not be. And it's such a smarmy speech, which just sums up Sunak as a politician, a classic Tory who expects the voters to trust their 'betters'. Nobody's being won over by this ambition-free nonsense.

his wife introducing him on stage looks like something dreamed up by Tory strategists that ends up appearing way out of touch in practice, too many shades of presidential politics on the one hand and a substance-free 'please be nice to my husband and forget that I'm a rich tax-dodger' on the other.

also lmao at David Cameron poking his head above the parapet to criticise Sunak for abandoning long-term policies - the right message about long-term policies paying off coming from exactly the guy whose lack of long-term planning sent the country into a stagnation spiral.

I don't think the money will ever be spent, as it was forecasted borrowing wasn't it. I think questions need to be asked why they greenlight HS2 in the first place, when everyone at the time said it was expensive and increased interest rates were forecast.

To me it points to a strategy of the future, where they saw how they could win an election based on a single issue and I think that's what the Tory strategiests are plotting for 2024 and planting the seeds for 2029.

The Tories' whole strategy seems to be to make up some ridiculous nonsense, claim that it is Labour policy and oppose it. They have even revived the bendy bananas" nonsense. They are promising to legislate to stop councils doing things that no council is even considering doing. Isn't tackling real issues such as inflation rather more important?

I for one voted for chaos with Ed Miliband!!

HS2 now announced not to be going to Euston either unless private funding is found.

So Old Oak Common-Birmingham will have a high speed rail line. Literally the worst of all possible outcomes regarding HS2. I really do hope Labour come into power in time to reverse these descisions that are being made about HS2.

The Tories are planning to sell some of the land that was to be used for the route, thereby making it a lot harder for the project to be revived.

Tories are really going to fill their swag bag for their mates and take a wrecking ball to the UK infrastructure before they FOAD next year. And the majority of this criminality will be barely reported on - because well funded bullies rule them and the UK nowadays.

Can't see Labour doing anything about HS2 now. They will focus on the improvement of links between East to West, which probably locks in greater economic potential over a longer period and goes some way to re-addressing how London centric we are as a nation.

Amongst all the pathetic desperation, transphobia and xenophobia from the conference, we at least have something to laugh at here

Not sure what she's going for really x

Penny Mordaunt was trying to do a rubbish, secular English version of this piece of ART which remains to this day, the only decent thing to come from the whole Trump Presidency (Paula White, Trump's spiritual adviser who was leading a prayer service on the day that he was losing the election.
