Posted October 26, 20222 yr I've seen quite a few people on Twitter and forums discussing this over the last week... is another Ukraine win inevitable? The war between Ukraine vs Russia is very much still ongoing and I'd be surprised if it was over by May, unfortunately. The whole show, though hosted by the UK, is essentially going to be a celebration/love letter to Ukraine, as sympathy for not being able to host. So, even if the war isn't so prevalent in people's minds BEFORE Eurovision, the Ukraine-centric nature of the hosting will surely bring it back to the forefront of many voters' minds. Obviously, this question does come before we've heard any songs and I hope it doesn't come across disrespectful, but I think it's an interesting question to pose and see what people think.
October 26, 20222 yr Entirely possible. I hope they go competitive so that if/when their song does win it feels like a continuation of song quality as well as political events. You could also argue conversely that by May 2022, the shock of a war in Europe hadn't quite sunk in and showing solidarity with Ukraine was at the forefront of voters' minds. With the full knowledge that they've won already and a war that is now an expected part of life (and tbh, at the rate Ukraine is advancing, somewhat less scary), is there a pressing need to make them win again? I do think it depends a lot on the direction and staging of the next Ukrainian entry, Kalush Orchestra made full use of their nationality to sell a narrative that played very well towards winning, it's likely that the next Ukrainian entrants will be also encouraged to do that, but it's not a certainty.
October 26, 20222 yr Public vote, it wouldn't surpise me, but probably in a less emphatic way than last year. There's bound to be another huge groundswell of support though. Jury vote, it depends on the song. I suspect Stefania would have been an easy top ten even if the war had never happened, so it's not like it was complete crap winning, the track was popular. So with a good track that would come top 10 anyway, yes they can probably win again, if the song is not good then I don't see it.
October 26, 20222 yr I think it’s possible but would depend on the Song and also the general public levels of support towards UA across the continent after what could be a long and tough winter. By the time we hit May there might not be as much sympathy among the public in some states for the position the Ukrainians are in. (I’m thinking of Hungary and Germany and Italy among others)
October 26, 20222 yr Yes if they send my loves GO_A. Lots of eurofans are still toxic about Ukraine’s win but I don’t think the general public will be quite so sympathetic when May comes around. It depends on the press as in 2022 they were encouraging the public to send them votes whether they watched it or not. The contest itself is supposed to be apolitical.
October 26, 20222 yr Ukraine are usually so good at Eurovision that you have to theoretically put them down as potential victory challengers anyway regardless of song choice so it stands to reason that they could win again. Although its entirely possible that the opposite happens and people take the view that Ukraine have "had their chance" and don't give them that extra 100-200 televote points that they gave 'Stefania'.
October 26, 20222 yr I think they can with the right song. I don't think the televoting would give them as many points this year if the quality is similar to Stefania.
November 12, 20222 yr Although we should keep the title of Latvia 2005 in mind, it looks like the situation might well hopefully be changing so we might see geopolitics play less of a role next year.
