I thought Qatar should have been awarded a penalty before the Senegal goal.

Looks like the host nation is going out after just 2 games :lol:

I'm sure the referees had all been bribed to help them wherever possible but they're not even getting themselves into opportunities to get dodgy decisions here...

The biggest defeat by a host nation in the group stage of the World Cup is 3-0. South Africa v Uruguay in 2010 and Russia against the same opposition in 2018.

Senegal look dangerous - could very well be England's round of 16 opponents.

Too little too late from Qatar. They started attacking when they went 2-0 down and actually looked quite decent. Why didn’t they do that from the start?

 

As soon as they scored, Senegal stepped it up though so still a deserved win for them.

Netherlands win or draw and the host team is the first one eliminated*! :D

*there is a huge-brained route where Qatar are technically still in this if Netherlands loses the next match, Qatar beat them also, and Ecuador beat Senegal AND Qatar finish ahead of both Netherlands and Senegal on goal difference, but I'd give you odds of roughly infinity/1 on that one

Ecuador look like they’d be tougher opponents than the Netherlands in the next round.

Would have expected other way round actually.

Netherlands are a big name team.

 

But I'll certainly be watching the Ecuador Senegal match, and not just because it's more consequential, both teams have been more enjoyable to watch throughout.
