The Christmas takeover fully begins as we enter December, alongside fresh contenders from Lewis Capaldi aiming for his fourth #1 with Pointless and RAYE & 070 Shake potentially claiming their first with Escapism. This week’s releases include PinkPantheress’ latest track Boy’s a liar, plus new music from Metallica, James Arthur, Nas/21 Savage, PNAU/Troye Sivan and 100 gecs

Olly Murs is in the running for his fifth #1 album with Marry Me, while Metro Boomin is back with Heroes & Villains boasting some big name features. New releases include Leftfield’s return with This Is What We Do and RM’s solo debut Indigo, along with albums from White Lung, Half Alive, Brakence and NOFX

Breakdown of the week

- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.

- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.

- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm

- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.

- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.

- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)

- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).

- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.

- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.

- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

I really hope Leftfield does well. I guess they've been away too long to stand a chance of making top 3 but I really hope they at least manage top 10.
If RAYE gets #1 this Friday, I hope Lewis gets #1 next Friday

Is Olly doing lots of formats?

only just CDs, vinyls, cassettes, USBs, advent calendars, signed flower pots...

Olly does have a fanbase and has a decent shot at #1 but he could have done more to push pre-orders sooner before announcing M&G (other artists managed to sell multiple copies of their album this way) to get a bigger head start over Taylor Swift. I don’t know whose bright idea it was to schedule him on Graham Norton this Friday and not 18th, 25th or 2nd. He has some telly next week but it’s bad organisation.

I would love Raye to be #1 this week, Lewis is heading for #1 next week if his CDs drop as scheduled.

So do we think there’s no chance of any Christmas songs making it to #1 this week?

Edited by M477h3w

I think Olly should be safe for #1, zero competition this week

and with the crazy amount of formats, signed stuff, etc sure he will do at least 25K

So do we think there’s no chance of any Christmas songs making it to #1 this week?
I think there's a chance with the streams over this weekend, in fact I'd say this week is Mariah's only realistic chance this year as Wham! will be ahead for definite in the subsequent weeks.

Interesting. This time last year Mariah was 600 sales ahead. This year she is 1,800 sales ahead. I do feel Wham! will overtake Mariah but not sure when. But this weekend’s Christmas streams are looking very high.

I think it’s difficult to predict who will be higher between Mariah and Wham!. With the exception of last year, hasn’t it always been Mariah higher (during the Spotify era anyway). Either way, it’ll be between them two anyway from a Christmas song POV

it would be great to see Mariah or Wham at Christmas no1 .both are the best xmas songs of all time
