Steps were formed 24 years ago on this date! :o

Happy anniversary

Such a great achievement, I don’t think anyone would’ve predicted it after 5, 6, 7, 8.

Oh me to, I mean not that 5, 6, 7, 8 reaching #1 in Australia would’ve made a huge difference in the scheme of things it was good to see they were given more opportunities to release. When you think of other acts at the time it’s a great result.

24 years *.*

Imagine signing a deal to do one song, a Novelty Song at THAT!! and then ending up being where they are. It's funny how sometimes things just work out.

Wow  :cheer:

Happy that they are still around and the 7th studio album is going to be released soon! Who would have thought in december 2001?

Thank god 5678 did well as it opened the door to a great career. I think the members of steps had their heads fairly well screwed on when doing their contracts as financially they did so much better than many of the bands at that time.

I remember hearing that at the time of 5678, They only received £50 for everything they did

I thought that original contract was with the original line up (before Lee, Faye and Claire joined)?

After auditions, the original line-up of Watkins, Scott-Lee, Derek O'Brien, Maddy Chan, and Mitch Stevens was finalised and the band started shooting promotional images and recording tracks. However, O'Brien, Chan and Stevens left, as they wanted more than a one-hit wonder, and saw no long-term future with Steps. New auditions were held on 7 May 1997, and in conjunction with the manufacturers, they selected Tozer, Latchford-Evans and Richards as the remaining members.

It very well may have been, I'm not sure.

Bet they were kicking themselves for quite a while!

Have to be kicking themselves but maybe with that line up only believing that they wouldnt have gone any further, im sure there was determination from the Steps members we now know to succeed and go further.

Wtf? I had no idea about this

Derek really doesn't sound like a popstar name though, especially for bubblegum pop

Derek looks slightly like Lee and Mitch looks slightly like Claire so it seems like they were replacing what they had and then Maddy for Faye is the wildcard that is just totally different

The original lineup looks so much more edgy as well imo.
