It's madness to think it's that long ago. I was so upset and disappointed when I read that news, mainly because I felt like they'd been dishonest... I'd literally spent some of Boxing Day reading the 'Gold' book which ended on their plans for 2002... and then I saw on Teletext that they'd split :drama:

With the passing of time I don't think I'd change what happened. The drama of the split, and the feeling of there being unfinished business with them... ultimately I think what happened had its part to play in them having a triumphant return, particularly since 2017, although 2011/12 showed that public appetite for Steps was high [outside of a Christmas album, lol].

Outside of a dreary album, still think had they done a proper fun camp Xmas album with classics and new upbeat songs would be so much more successful (in relation to xmas albums anyway as they are the biggest of sellers anyway).

I remember being so annoyed at them for splitting like that too, obviously did not know the H & Claire stuff at this point. On reflection though I am so glad they ended as they did I truly believe them going out on a high game them the chance to make the comeback they have, instead of fizzling out like S Club 7 did.

The split at the time was handled so badly but initially we dudnt know about the h and Claire stuff. Fan's were mad and so disappointed but we now know Lee, Faye and Lisa were alit more mad and disappointed. It did work out for the best in the long as they went out on a high which made the comeback a little but easier.

Yeah the split was handled badly but that’s in no way the fault of Lee, Lisa or Faye.

To be a fly on the wall over those few days!

I'd have been a fly on the wall at Lee's Attitude magazine photoshoot! #priorities

Ya id say it would have been some very interesting recordings.

To comeback together after such a bitter breakup takes a lot of hard work. Getting trust back into the group would not have been easy but they done it.

I actually think the hideous documentary helped wonders; they united in their hatred of it haha!
