December 30, 20223 yr The album chart has an odd mixture of albums targeted at the Christmas gift market crashing downwards, and albums containing heavily streamed Christmas songs flying upwards (King's College Choir sleighing as they usually do). As It Was did well to keep its unbroken Top 100 run going, although I can't see it ultimately going beyond its 87th week (which would be 1st Dec 2023).Cuff It dropped out, so I think that makes the joint 10th longest unbroken runners Anti-Hero and Made You Look on 10 weeks each.

December 31, 20223 yr Such a strong year for the US oldies - Burl Ives and The Beach Boys never even making the top 100 before this year but the former coming really close to the top 40 this time and the latter in the top 60! And lower down Nat King Cole and Dean Martin also having new top 100 hits (one significantly better than the other, I'll leave as an exercise to the reader to decide which is which). Shall be mildly intrigued to see if things keep trending in that direction next year. Michael Bublé also dominating harder than ever with him getting 4 new peaks in the singles chart this week thanks to that Dolly Parton feature! Pretty close to having 3 versions of 'Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!' in the top 40 in the same week which must be a pretty rare occurrence (I know it happened with 'Hallelujah' in 2008). Also love to see The Waitresses, The Darkness and Greg Lake making appearances again even if late and far too low. Ergh at the Lauren Spencer-Smith Amazon song ending up charting, I hoped we'd avoided that after it impacting the Hot 100 the same week as Lizzo but initially missing out here. I've heard a short clip of it and it sounds exactly like I'd expect a Lauren Spencer-Smith cover of 'Last Christmas' to sound like (i.e. not good). Lmao at 3 different King's College Choir albums making the top 100 *_* and I see the 'Home Alone' soundtrack sneaking in for the first time, making up for the fact that neither 'Somewhere In My Memory' nor 'Carol Of The Bells' made the top 100 again this year. December 31, 20223 yr It's the biggest drop from debut (beating their own record of 1-78 for 'Don't Stop Me Eatin'') and third biggest overall behind 'Three Lions' going 1-97 and 'Last Christmas' going 1-out (as it's likely about to do a second time). edit: fourth biggest, see Jim's post below
