April 30, 20232 yr Quite liked the attempt at a strategy for Ocon & Hulkenberg, even if it gained them barely anything in the end. Seemed like a very uneventful race......
April 30, 20232 yr Author F1 races at which 1-2-3 on the grid finished 3-2-1: 🇦🇹 Austria 1999 🇬🇧 Britain 2002 🇬🇧 Britain 2011 🇨🇳 China 2013 🇧🇭 Bahrain 2017 🇷🇺 Russia 2020 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan 2023
April 30, 20232 yr Best driver: Perez Worst driver: De Vries Best team: Red Bull Worst team: Alfa Romeo Best overtake: Alonso on Sainz Worst overtake: Russell on Stroll (still not sure why that didn't constitute passing under a yellow flag) Best moment: Alonso passing Sainz Worst moment: Ocon's pit stop Best thing about the race: Perez won Worst thing about the race: Tedious And the race in a sentence: Slightly less dull than the preceding sprint
May 1, 20232 yr Not really sure about the new Sprint format. I think I preferred it being separated from the main event, and really liked the shortened qualifying with there being cars on the track at all times, but ultimately it's just not set up to be exciting - not much is likely to happen in a race that short when you start in grid order and there's barely any differentiation in strategies. May 2, 20232 yr Best driver: Perez [good thing for him there are more street tracks being added as he can only win on those!] Worst driver: De Vries [what a shitstorm of a weekend, anyone else think he's already on borrowed time?] Best team: Red Bull Worst team: Alfa Romeo [what is going on with Bottas this season?] Best overtake: Alonso on Sainz Worst overtake: Verstappen on Leclerc Best moment: Ocon nearly creating a photographer pancake Worst moment: The moment we realised this wasn't gonna be a Baku classic Best thing about the race: It was a race Worst thing about the race: Hopes and expectations were severely unmatched And the race in a sentence: Another Red Bull 1-2, whatcha, whatcha gon' do? (feat. Jax Jones)
May 2, 20232 yr Author Autosport Driver Ratings for Azerbaijan Sergio Perez: 9 Max Verstappen: 8 Charles Leclerc: 9 Fernando Alonso: 9 Carlos Sainz: 6 Lewis Hamilton: 8 Lance Stroll: 5 George Russell: 6 Lando Norris: 6 Yuki Tsunoda: 8 Oscar Piastri: 6 Alex Albon: 4 Kevin Magnussen: 6 Pierre Gasly: 5 Esteban Ocon: 6 Logan Sargeant: 5 Nico Hülkenberg: 5 Valtteri Bottas: 4 Guanyu Zhou: 5 Nyck de Vries: 2
May 3, 20232 yr How the Hell did they rate Sargeant above Albon? That's ridiculous Albon - finished above Sargeant in every session Reached Q2 even after Sainz blocked his best run 7th in sprint qualifying and 9th in the actual event Damaged front wing on lap one of GP Screwed strategy through safety car Finished 12th Sargeant - Behind Albon in all sessions Slowest in Q2 Trashed car in sprint qualifying (quailfied 15th) Missed Sprint altogether Strategy compromised by SC Off the pace of Albon all GP Finished 16th
May 3, 20232 yr Those Autosport ratings should really be called Driver + Car ratings If you ain’t in a good car, you ain’t getting above a 6
May 3, 20232 yr Tsunoda got an 8 at least^ Other than the Williams drivers ratings they're petty much spot on I'd say.
