Posted January 2, 20232 yr I'm nicking Suedey's idea for his 60th but just posting these without much commentary, worst to best, based on how I feel today about them (I have a chest infection and Covid so a bit grumpy about things)! Week-ending chart dates... 65. I LOVE YOU Cliff Richard & The Shadows (1961) uNRDiVcTrPI Bottom place mostly because it's the one I know least. None of his xmas chart-toppers were still number one on my birthday, or this might not have been bottom with the 2000 effort.
January 2, 20232 yr Author 64. BRING YOUR DAUGHTER TO THE SLAUGHTER Iron Maiden (1991) m0J7XnbUN5o Never been a fan of Iron Maiden and this wasn't even their least-bad effort (that was Run To The Hills). It's the naff chorus I especially hate.
January 2, 20232 yr Author 63. IMPOSSIBLE James Arthur (2013) Mhj15W23IjA X-Factor constipated superstar mauls a ballad, straining to his very best. So many X-Factor songs on a par with this, but his singing style really grates on me. Sorry fans!
January 2, 20232 yr Author 62. LOVE YOURSELF Justin Bieber (2016) pb4hWWMlFYg No, Justin, you can go Love Yourself. Probably lower than it deserves as it's recent and I really don't want to hear it for a decade or 2.
January 2, 20232 yr Author 61. PERFECT Ed Sheeran (2018) 2Vv-BfVoq4g I'm not 17-30 and in love and all gooey and romantic, and I think we all deserve a break from Ed and his soppy ballads for a few years. I may actually like this after a break from them....
January 2, 20232 yr Author Thanks Julian! :) 60. THERE’S NO-ONE QUITE LIKE GRANDMA St Winifred’s School Choir (1981) rsXJcIODLtQ awww who could fail to not feel all warm and cosy at a group of sweet schoolkids singing a song to the Queen Mum? Quite a lot, judging by recent BJ polls. I dont mind this as long as I hear it about once every 5 years and no more...
January 2, 20232 yr Author 59. IT’S ONLY MAKE BELIEVE Conway Twitty (1959) LJefPaBsSug Ol' Conway was always a bit cheesy in his delivery, but there's no disguising this is an awesome song. Sung by Glen Campbell. The 1970 cover was amazing and I just can't help comparing this unflatteringly with the brilliant Glen.
January 2, 20232 yr Oh this is an unfortunate day to have pick from each year. At least you’ll have some good songs from 1987 and earlier!
January 2, 20232 yr Author 58. LONG-HAIRED LOVER FROM LIVERPOOL Little Jimmy Osmond (1973) YriPIujLtsA Talking of young singers, 50 years ago this was torturing me as my littlle brother bought the single. It's jolly and annoying, but OK in very small doses....
January 2, 20232 yr Author Oh this is an unfortunate day to have pick from each year. At least you’ll have some good songs from 1987 and earlier! There's quite a lot of classics in amongst the Xmas tat, so it'll get better as it goes :)
January 2, 20232 yr Author 57. AGAINST ALL ODDS Steve Brookstein (2005) yhQcQ8M8yyg Perfectly affable winner of a song competition, with a nice soulful voice. But it's not Phil Collins. And it's not even one of Phil Collins' greatest songs. You'd have thought he would heeded the warning of the Westlife/Mariah travesty and steered well clear and gone for a proper soul classic instead. Plodding. My friend bumped into him in an antique shop in Wimbledon Village. End of anecdote....
January 2, 20232 yr Happy birthday PCF! As this isn't their forum of origin, I won't try too hard to stick up for Love Yourself and Perfect, but yikes at all the X Factor fodder still to come :D

January 2, 20232 yr I’d actually have St Winifred’s ahead of the X Factor style hits now. It’s akin to listening to a Christmas school play where there is at least some charm in the innocence.
January 2, 20232 yr I’d actually have St Winifred’s ahead of the X Factor style hits now. It’s akin to listening to a Christmas school play where there is at least some charm in the innocence. I've never detected any charm in that excrescence.
January 2, 20232 yr Happy Birthday PCF! The only ones I like you have covered so far are James Arthur's cover of Impossible (on the contrary this actually stood out for me as a decent effort among all the winners song shit) and Love Yourself.
January 3, 20232 yr Author Happy birthday PCF! As this isn't their forum of origin, I won't try too hard to stick up for Love Yourself and Perfect, but yikes at all the X Factor fodder still to come :D Yes and prepare yourself it wont be long
January 3, 20232 yr Author How did this not come last? And Happy Birthday :cheer: Thanks Simon! and I find I dont hate this so much these days, time and nostalgia does funny things to musical tolerance

I'd agree with that, but Simon may have had to sit through rather a lot of school xmas kids singing do's and the charm wears off
