There's songs that I only ever listen to in the studio version and some that I only ever intentionally experienced through the live contest performance.

This became most evident with Moldova 2022 which has zero impact when I listened to it on Spotify.

Conchita obviously blows the roof off on stage (my number 1 performance ever) but I don't remember the last time I listened to the studio cut.

I will listen to 1944 on Spotify because I love the way it's produced but live it's truly special.

Songs that I love but never go near the live version because they do very little for me.

Soldi - amazing production but can't deal with the contest performance and surprised it did so well in the televote.

City Lights too. Love that song but I don't know where those televotes came from.

Finland 2018 - studio version is cracking. Netherlands 2022 also much prefer the studio cut.

What do you guys prefer?

Maps by Lesley Roy; Unbroken by Maria Olafs and Miracle by Samra spring to mind as great studios but awful lives which I thoroughly enjoy.

I’m fine with the studio versions tbh. There’s very very very few songs that I prefer a live version of to such an extent that I wouldn’t listen to the studio version as much

Shum needs to be experienced live.

I am going to do this in 7 weeks!!!

I think Måneskin are also a great live (not ESC live but real live) experience because they are such accomplished performers and the atmosphere is electric

A lot of songs lose some punch live for me, as recreating a studio version with six people on stage has never been easy for some, like Malena Ernman's La Voix, where its impact was completely dulled at Eurovision.

I did really, really enjoy Sam's Space Man live and very regularly watch the performance rather than listen to the studio version. Kate Miller-Heidke's Zero Gravity too as it was such a spectacle, but I still love the studio version.

Some songs were really enhanced by the orchestra too when that was a thing, like Katrina's Love Shine A Light, I regularly rewatch that version instead of listening to the studio.

I guess songs that I adore the studios of but less so the live performances include Cascada's Glorious and Gina G's Ooh...Aah Just A Little Bit. I enjoy watching the latter to the extent of seeing a 90s pop classic on the Eurovision stage, but Gina's vocal wasn't brilliant.

Rosa Linn - Snap was a great example of this. Very mediocre song to perform live but a great pop cut that was unsurprisingly a hit when it gained traction elsewhere.

EuphoriaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Some younger fans think the studio version is overrated but the live performance is one of the greatest in Eurovision history. It's so simple but it's a mesmorising experience and I love it to this day. She proved you don't need all the back-up dancers and elaborate staging when the song is a masterpiece and she FEELS EVERY SECOND of it. The smile on her face when the fans started clapping is the best.

While I hate the song the live performance of SloMo makes it infinitely better.

SloMo does shine a lot live. I didn't quite warm up to the studio version on this before the Benidorm Fest live but the performance really elevated the song, especially the revamp with the bridge.

Brividi wasn't a song that I like but the live version somehow made it even worse. :(

Oh yes, Unique's Mejores flopped so hard live in Benidorm Fest too :kink:

'Hatrið Mun Sigra' comes to mind as a recent one where the studio version hit a lot harder than the live version for me.
Margaret Berger’s “I Feed You My Love” from 2013 is one of my favourite entries ever but her vocals just didn’t have enough punch live.
I am going to do this in 7 weeks!!!

omg I'm also thinking of seeing them

Gotta add a few more to this.

My two favourites from 2024 were terrible live - Mustii and Kaleen. I will probably never watch the live performance again but the studio versions are still great.

Doomsday Blue is not something I'll have on high rotation but the performance/staging will be my favourite ever for a long long time. I still watch it several times a week.

Sonias better the devil you know and niamh kavanagh both from 1993 are a million times better live than studio.
