Random observation while watching the 1987 TOTP repeat, the #1 song 'I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)' includes the following lyric: "somehow I made it through the heartache" and the song at #2 is 'Heartache' (by Pepsi & Shirley)

It's almost like George planned it as his Wham! backing singer tried for a career  Mind you Shirley was more of a Spandau fan around then, and Pepsi taking up the slot left by Dee C Lee having already moved on to a solo career and Paul Weller :)

Thats a nice coincidence

and must be a 1st, an artist at #1 and his ex-backup singers at #2

a great top 2 anyway, Heartache was one the first singles I bought as a kid, was totally obsessed with Pepsi & Shirley, which sadly only lasted 2 singles in the spotlight.

Having a huge TOTP binge tonight as I'd fallen behind (including that episode above x) and The Primitives - 'Crash' appearing on the 1988 one has made my night

Fun 80s fact of the day.

In 1985 artists named 'King', 'Queen', 'Prince and 'Princess' all had top 10 hits!

From yesterday's TOTP 1987 episode, this played over the end credits, and it's my favourite Prince song:

Featured on one of tonight's TOTPs - I remember hearing this in a German nightclub in the 90s, but had no idea what it was called or who it was by - now I know!
