It’s my turn to choose an album this week so I thought I’d steer away from the obvious pop choice for once! My first album choice goes to the self-titled debut album by Daughtry - a rock (I use the term pretty loosely) album by American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry and the rest of his band.

 

I discovered this band when I first went to Florida in the Autumn of 2006 and a load of singles from this album was on heavy rotation over there.

 

I love pretty much every song on this record and am patiently waiting for it to be pressed on vinyl - hopefully I won’t have to wait too long but who knows really?

'What About Now' is the obvious for most here I'd say but I have heard some of their other singles back in the day and quite liked those too. A very unexpected choice indeed! Will look forward to checking it out in full.

This will be a new discovery for me too! I also know What About Now (later covered by Westlife) but nothing else.

I own this album, haven't played in a pretty long time but it's a good one! I'm still in awe of how successful it was in America with 5 top-40 hits, that was no small feat back then! My two favorites were 'What About Now', the fifth and final single (and obviously their only significant hit in the UK), and 'Breakdown' which was an album track. But yes I love pretty much every song too! It's a solid mix of heavy rock and more radio-friendly tracks, I feel like they were lucky enough to have a similar appeal to Nickelback without suffering the same backlash as Nickelback did in later years. :kink:

I think they used his song in the exit part of AI too. Can't remember which song of his/their's it was though :thinking:

imagine the Chris Daughtry shock elimination with social media as rampant as it is, the backlash would have been IMMENSE

Chris Daughtry was also on the Masked Singer USA where he came second!

Found out it was the aptly named 'Home' that was used as the exit song. That was a great one too.

 

I forgot he was deemed the favourite to win that season only to be booted in 4th place. No wonder people were shocked!
