February 4, 20232 yr Author But did you chart Out of your Mind? I didn't! My friend loved and bought it though. I was fully camp Spiller/Sophie. Oh wow, I haven’t heard this in years! What a great track! It is such a lovely song. Will catch up with this later on but some nice picks and more recognisable ones at that! True, a little less random/unknown than the opening batch  2 classics (Hi, Rob Davis of Mud, that 1976 forgotten Mud disco wonder Shake It Down really was the template!) from Fragma & Spiller, and also One & One. Tell Me Why is a goodie, and Heart Of Asia is a fab tune. Spiller topped my charts so we have one in common :) :cheer: Glad you're liking a few and that we had one in common, I'll have to check out that Mud song, i don't know it. Loads of great songs there - Groovejet and One & One were both singles I bought (the former being announced at #1 officially remains an iconic chart moment), and Will I Ever was a big fave of mine at the time which I think I preferred to Back In My Life. Agreed about Groovejet, I knew Madonna was due the following week so realistically it was the only chance for one or the other to get to the top and I was glad it went the way of Spiller.
February 5, 20232 yr 'One and One', Groovejet', 'Will I Ever' are all fab and 'On The Beach is solid too. Not too mad on that Corrs track which is a rarity. Also I didn't know of it soundtracking a film either. Don't think I've seen it either.
February 5, 20232 yr Bit late with this thread! You share some great dance number 1s with me - Groovejet, Tocas Miracle to make but 2. Loving the inclusion of The Riddle - what an under rated tune!

Agreed, was good that The Riddle went top ten as it's rather forgotten these days.
February 5, 20232 yr Author 2000 18/30: Rollergirl - Dear Jessie (1 week at No.1) 4lnGZbRJKZw German singer Rollergirl released a very Alice Deejay-esque cover of Madonna's Dear Jessie as her debut single, and it charted in the teens in a number of European charts in 1999-2000. On its eventual UK release it got some good support from the TV music channels and made it to No.22, and also topped my chart for a week. Looking back it's probably a little basic and not as good as the twee original, and Rollergirl was ultimately a one-hit wonder in my chart. Today I've learnt it was produced by Alex Christensen, who also produced a raft of other big hits in my chart, and big hits to come out of Germany over the last 30 years. February 5, 20232 yr Author 2000 19/30: Mariah Carey feat Westlife - Against All Odds (1 week at No.1) Dc3YAINjlyE The third of three of the 42 UK No.1s of 2000 to also top my chart, I never promised it would be a popular one. For her third UK single from Rainbow, Mariah enlisted the help of Irish boyband Westlife who were on a hot streak and had opened their chart career with five consecutive UK No.1s. A reworked version of her cover of Phiil Collins' Against All Odds added trademark verses from Shane and Mark, and the song became a far more commercial prospect, giving Mariah her second UK No.1 (six years after 1994's Without You) and Westlife their sixth. It spent two weeks at the top of the UK chart, a rarity for both Westlife and the chart toppers of 2000, but just one week at the top of mine. I still like it to this day and think it gets a very hard time, although it did see off a dance classic in the form of Kernkraft 400 by Zombie Nation, which also stiffed at No.2 for me (I bought both on CD on the same day, so don't blame me that Mariah/Westlife won!).
February 5, 20232 yr Author 2000 20/30: Gigi D’Agostino - Bla Bla Bla (1 week at No.1) Hrph2EW9VjY Italian producer Gigi D’Agostino had a number of continental hits around the turn of the century, and they even crossed over to Ireland, but sadly they did not make it in the UK, and it wasn't until 2018 when Dynoro's sample of L'Amour Toujours finally gave him his first big hit here with In My Mind. I heard Bla Bla Bla on a UK compilation it featured on called Fresh Hits 2000, Volume Two, and instantly took to it. Clearly a UK release was planned but the song either wasn't released or didn't chart here, for whatever reason, until late 2002, when they evidently tried it again and it flopped at No.87. Bla Bla Bla is a very simple, infectious dance track, like Eiffel 65 but with only one word repeated throughout the song. I do remember I tired of it quickly and after its week at No.1 it fell all the way to No.12 in my chart! But Gigi had better tracks in the form of L'Amour Toujours and his cover of Nik Kershaw's The Riddle, which also both did well but sadly didn't top my chart. He finally got his second No.1 for me 18 years later, when In My Mind went all the way.
February 5, 20232 yr Author 2000 21/30: Aurora feat Naimee Coleman - Ordinary World (1 week at No.1) FA39yqwnX98 Just seven years after the spectacular Ordinary World gave Duran Duran a chart revival, it was already time for a trance revival. British act Aurora, again on the Positiva label, had already achieved a top 20 hit with Hear You Calling earlier in the year, and enlisted Irish singer/songwriter Naimee Coleman to give Ordinary World a makeover. Clearly a very different vibe to the original, and it also removed one of the verses to make the song a snappier affair, but I loved this cover, and still enjoy it a lot now. Of course I also love the original, but they suit different moods for me - the melody is so iconic that it really works well as a dance anthem and I was happy that it reached the top five in the UK. Both Aurora and Naimee had further top three hits away from each other in my chart, but this was the only week either spent at No.1.
February 5, 20232 yr 'Zombie Nation' robbed! 'Ordinary World' is great in original form but I'm fairly sure I remember the dance remake too. Both are good I think!
February 5, 20232 yr Author 2000 22/30: Vanessa Amorosi - Absolutely Everybody (1 week at No.1) ZvSS5s5ivrg Despite just spending seven days at the top of my chart, Australian teenager Vanessa Amorosi's uplifting first UK single Absolutely Everybody was in fact my favourite song of the year, and still sits in my all-time top 40 to this day. An absolute powerhouse vocalist, Vanessa's uplifting latin flavoured party track with a carnival twang was played a lot on the TV music channels, with the likes of The Box helping it all the way into the UK top 10 at No.7. It was, naturally, a much bigger hit at home where Vanessa belted out the anthem at the Olympics in Sydney, and it finished in the top 75 of 1999 and the top 40 of 2000. More recently, I've heard the track a lot on TikTok, suggesting it has mini virality there, while Vanessa had many further hits in my chart, including another No.1 at a much later part of the 2000s...

Such a great song. It has 4 music videos! Her first grin of singles here in Australia were all great.
February 5, 20232 yr Author How many people like this song? Answer is the title. Absolutely everybody certainly should like it! Oh yass childhood classic that is <3 so joyous! True, always puts a smile on my face still! Such a great song. It has 4 music videos! Her first grin of singles here in Australia were all great. Yes, bizarre that she had so many videos for it. I loved Shine too, that was a big hit for me but never got a UK release, even though it was supposed to and the video was played here. I'm sure it would have gone top 40, even if the lyrics are a little bit morbid (it was supposed to be called Die, not Shine - read the lyrics and it completely fits, but is super depressing!)
February 5, 20232 yr Yeah I remember reading that re Shine, 12 year old me loved the song and no idea in 2000.
February 6, 20232 yr Author 2000 23/30: Alice Deejay - The Lonely One (1 week at No.1) YytZ5h9nOOo Following up their poppiest single with easily their least commercial, Alice Deejay went full on trance for their fourth single The Lonely One, another top 20 hit for the group but the diminishing returns had continued and it peaked at No.16. I was obsessed with it and overall I would put it third in my rank of their singles, behind the first two but ahead of Will I Ever. The build after the middle eight is immense as it crashes back in for the pounding final chorus. I also loved the mysterious storyline for Judith in the video with backing dancers Yutin and the P!nk-esque Mila giving it everything too. Edited February 6, 20232 yr by gooddelta
February 6, 20232 yr Author 2000 24/30: Delerium feat Sarah McLachlan - Silence (4 weeks at No.1) a4kvVNWnFwk A rare beast now among my high turnover of 2000 - a four-week chart topper. Canadian dance act Delerium roped in the talents of the incredible, underrated Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan for the legendary Silence. The track was originally a more Enigma-esque downtempo track but it was remixed by a number of different producers, including famously Tiësto, whose In Search Of Sunrise version is easily the most popular now, but at the time it was Airscape who turned the song into a UK top three hit, and this is the version I far prefer. Both are great though, and show the power a trance remix can have on an otherwise uncommercial sounding track. Delerium never topped my chart again but Sarah would be back... February 6, 20232 yr Author 2000 25/30: Christina Aguilera - Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You) (2 weeks at No.1) 0RQDIJ2CvbA The beautiful power ballad I Turn To You had proved a bit of a commercial misstep for Christina in the summer when it peaked way down at No.19 in the UK - although reached No.3 in my chart. To restore her chart fortunes, the decision was made to remix album track Come On Over (All I Want Is You). Already an album highlight but maybe missing that hit sound, the single polish gave the track new lyrics partly written by Christina, a new chord progression in one part, a bridge, a new rap, a reference to previous single What A Girl Wants, and a mid-song dance breakdown, transforming it into a much bigger and better pop track. The title was also slightly changed, with 'Baby' added, and the result was two weeks at the top of my chart, No.8 in the UK and - most notably - No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. It was also raunchier than her previous singles and proved an early glimpse of what was next... Edited February 6, 20232 yr by gooddelta
February 6, 20232 yr Author 2000 26/30: Darude - Feel The Beat (1 week at No.1) mN84To5ndw0 Shock. Horror! Sandstorm did not top my personal chart in summer 2000 and Finnish producer Darude had to wait until the follow up Feel The Beat to get his seven days in the sun. Adding what Sandstorm missed - a small vocal part, albeit only five words repeated endlessly, Feel The Beat is a storming, frenetic trance anthem albeit with a slower mid section that uses effective pacing to ramp right back up, and one that deserves to be better remembered today, particularly as it reached No.5 in the UK.
