17/18: Lady Gaga - Bad Romance (7 weeks at No.1)

Poker Face ran into a very busy Eurovision national final season at the start of 2009 and ended up with three weeks peaking at No.2 for me, but did finish in my end of year top ten. But later that year, for the release of The Fame Monster, the companion/extension album to The Fame, Gaga amped everything up even higher with the absolute stormer Bad Romance. Another RedOne production, it took Gaga from already the biggest new star of the year to immediate legend status. Despite this, it had a slow start in the UK in the busy pre-Xmas season, debuting only at No.14 and taking seven weeks to reach the top. But now of course, it's seen as the deserved classic it was always destined to be and commercial radio still spam it now as the ultimate example of her early career, with another memorable video to boot and seven weeks at the top for me!

18/18: Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart (2 weeks at No.1)

I'd always been fond of Alicia Keys, especially some of her early singles and 2007's No One, but she really hit her absolute peak in 2009 for me with the fantastic album The Element of Freedom. Immaculate production throughout and great vocals, melodies and lyrics, it elevated Alicia to an even higher level with great singles including Doesn't Mean Anything and Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down, but the album's immediate crowning jewel for me was the sublime Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart. Taking inspiration from the modern percussion heavy production seen on hits written by Ryan Tedder as well as obvious comparisons to Prince, this beautiful song was an immediate hit for me, my Christmas No.1 of 2009 and my final chart topper of the decade. It eventually peaked at No.7 in the UK when released as a single a couple of months later, but honestly deserved so much more.

And with that, and after much delay at the end there, the Good Delta Hit Parade: No.1s of the 2000s thread is finally complete!

Thanks so much for all the comments, views, and for sharing memories of the decade with me.

Oh good timing as I’m about to start a thread. This was great! And Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart is a beautiful finish.

Fab, I look forward to following that. Thank you!

Yes, Believe Again by Brinck got to No.3 for me  It was indeed written by Ronan too.

Yeah that's it. Think it made my top 40 as well. Wasn't bad tbf but it's a little scary how identical his voice is to Ronan and Ronan might as well just sung it himself lol.

What a perfect ending to your project though Rich with the magnificent 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart' and also a wonderful track to have as your Christmas #1 that year as well. 'Bad Romance' is of course a classic too albeit a little too much overplay at times.

Also Alicia being mentioned reminds me to go over Alicia's album and vote and rank in the review thread we did last year oops. Kinda dropped that after listening to it lol.

My faves from the 2's and ones that were big but missed top 2!

1. The Saturdays - Issues (1 week at #2) this would be inside my top 5 of theirs for sure.

2. The Saturdays - Just Can’t Get Enough (1 week at #2) did like this for the time but hasn't aged particularly well and the DM original is of course superior for me.

6. Lady Gaga - Poker Face (3 weeks at #2)

7. Mika - We Are Golden (2 weeks at #2) this was a good return but I see where others weren't so big on it.

8. Madonna - Celebration (2 weeks at #2)

9. Owl City - Fireflies (1 week at #2)

11. Cheryl Cole - Fight For This Love (2 weeks at #2) liked this more at the time than now oops.

12. Michael Bublé - Haven’t Met You Yet (2 weeks at #2) an actually good track from Bublé. Also like 'Hollywood' and 'It's A Beautiful Day' by him as well but other than that he's not my cup of tea particularly.

13. Leona Lewis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out (1 week at #2) is an okay cover but will take a lot to be Oasis's for me!

10 biggest faves that didn't make my top 2

Emilia - You're My World - is this Big Big World, Emilia? :o

Example - Watch The Sun Come Up great first hit for Example and better than a lot of his later hits too bar about 3!

Pixie Lott - Boys & Girls

Röyksopp & Robyn - The Girl and The Robot - will need to check this one as I know it's pretty well liked/loved as both acts are. I'm sure I'll have heard it back then but didn't take too much notice oops.

Tinchy Stryder feat Amelle - Never Leave You - a bop and perhaps Tinchy's best for me.

Thanks for running this Rich. It's been a fantastic effort and so much nostalgia packed in this thread too.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread, I remember following your chart back then so it was really interesting. Any plans to continue into the 2010s (I know you finished around 2015 but still).

Thanks for doing this gooddelta. I’ve really enjoyed following it.

It’s been a highlight of the forum for me.

Oh true, bit of a weird tribute act style really.

Thanks Rob for all your comments and support throughout. Yeah you've picked out my favourites from Bublé as well, I like most of his energetic pop originals but can leave all his drab covers completely. Yep, it is indeed the same Emilia, she tried to enter Eurovision for Sweden but didn't make it. Yeah agree about Example, he went quite a bit downhill for me as his career went on more and more. The Girl and the Robot is a beauty, definitely check it out! Oh yeah, same for me, I did like Tinchy quite a lot at the time mind you.

Many thanks for the comment Simon, I remember your support with my chart thread back in the day, which was much appreciated, so glad you found this thread too. Must admit that I probably won't immediately but maybe it would be an interesting project to do at some point down the line, and maybe include all my No.1s from 2015 to the end of the decade that haven't been made public. I have still roughly carried on recording them for myself since, so at least know what my No.1s would have been, if not the specifics lower down.

Thanks for doing this gooddelta. I’ve really enjoyed following it.

Many thanks for the kind words and all your comments in the thread OFS!

Thanks Rich, I've enjoyed following this ^_^

Thanks a lot Jim!
