Hello once again, it’s my turn for my third album review. My intention was to select from albums that I owned myself from the 2000’s from three genres; pop, dance and rock. So far I have reviewed pop (James Blunt) and dance (Röyksopp), and now I turn my attention to the genre of music that I owned the most albums for in this time period… rock and alternative. I deliberated for a while which artist to pick, but I’ve gone for Muse, with their third studio album, Absolution.

Muse are an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. The band consists of Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Dominic Howard (drums). Absolution was the band’s third studio album and the first of seven consecutive UK #1 albums. The album followed up on Origin of Symmetry's diverse musical tendencies and elaborate sound, while also having a more focused and consistent theme and aesthetic throughout. It has a noticeably darker and heavier tone musically, with a lyrical focus on theological and apocalyptic concepts.

Six singles were released from this album; Stockholm Syndrome, Time Is Running Out, Hysteria, Sing For Absolution, Apocalypse Please and Butterflies And Hurricanes.a

Stockholm Syndrome did not chart in the UK.

Time Is Running Out peaked at #8 in the UK.

Hysteria peaked at #17 in the UK.

Sing For Absolution peaked at #16 in the UK.

Apocalypse Please did not chart in the UK.

Butterflies And Hurricanes peaked at #14 in the UK.

I don’t think I’ve heard anything from this album yet Black Holes and Revelations was one I listened to a lot back in the day!

I look forward to this one!

I haven't heard this in a long time and vintage Muse is definitely the best kind. It's not quite as good as Black Holes and Revelations, but I'm well up for hearing it again <3
Great album, albeit one I've only listened all the way through a handful of times and many years ago. Time Is Running Out and Stockholm Syndrome are my favourites from it.
Will write a lot more later but definitely the best Muse album by far - in the same way I would put Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' their best. I'll need to listen to it again as been a while since I've been in the mood to put any Muse on. They went down hill gradually after then.
Some of these earlier ones before this album are great too. I remember hearing of them first via my sister but she went off them years later lol.

Well that intro was short!

This is now Apocalypse Please, one of the better album tracks that was meant to be pushed as a single but never peaked in the UK.
