Posted April 4, 20232 yr Surprised there wasn't already a thread on this! A cultural phenomenon on arrival, Wednesday sees a new take on the Addams Family, with Jenna Ortega in the titular lead role. Other cast members include Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers and Gwendoline Christie, plus Christina Ricci (who played Wednesday in the 1991 Addams Family film), and guest appearances from Catherine Zeta-Jones. I belatedly started checking this out on Sunday night and ended up watching the first 4 episodes before bed and the last 4 the next day, it gripped me far more than I expected it to! Any worries of it being a bit too weird (I've not seen any Addams Family stuff before, checked this out more based on the hype than anything else) were quickly soothed by the performances of the cast, notably Jenna Ortega who didn't let up for a single moment. It's easy to see how this has been such a big moment for her! The rest of the cast only strengthen her lead performance, I particularly enjoyed the contrast between Wednesday and Enid, as well as the way the plot kept us guessing over so many characters right until the end. Really impressed, enjoyed it loads more than I expected! Has anyone else watched? Di310WS8zLk
April 4, 20232 yr Ooh you have reminded me that I need to finish this! I have 3 episodes left but was enjoying it so far (I struggle to finish TV shows within a reasonable timeframe no matter how much I'm enjoying them, according to TV Time I am rotating between 8 different unfinished shows at the same time and it's been most of these for months :kink:) ~ anyway I agree that Jenna is awesome as Wednesday, I hadn't seen any Addams Family content in the past either but I love this strong-willed female lead and the general gothic themes present in the show. Better get a move on with finishing it :kink:
April 5, 20232 yr I loved it and the lead actor was so strong! Spent ages trying to work out who the headteacher was eventually had to google and was amazed to see it was Brienne of Tarth! Hoping for a second series now, although I am reluctant to get hooked into series with Netflix after how they dropped Sabrina!
Sunday at 17:393 days Author First half of season 2 is out now! Finished watching it earlier and really enjoyed it (albeit sadly mourning the loss of Xavier from the cast x)SpoilersThe relationship between Wednesday and Morticia has been one of the strongest aspects this time round, I love that they're exploring some of the complexities in further detail. Intrigued to see where things go with Tyler from here now he's loose again...
Sunday at 18:393 days We've finished the first four episodes too and generally it was enjoyable enough. I'm 50/50 on whether I'm enjoying having the extended family around more, it makes it just feel more Addams Family than Wednesday (which is kinda okay but I did really enjoy the shift in series 1 away from the rest of the family)... my other main gripe is that I'm not particularly bothered about the characters and story from season 1 - I loved it in Season 1 but I'm more interested in a separate story for this season... and it is there with the crows etc but the recurring older characters (the ones that should have stayed there because the story was resolved, not the students etc) are detracting rather than adding for me.That aside, it's still very strong - the jokes generally land well and it's still heaps of fun - and the 50% part of me that is enjoying the family parts agrees with Joseph that the Morticia parts are generally good
