Sadly this is how the media operate. They did exactly the same between Geri and the other girls 20 - 25 years ago.

 

You need to have a thick skin which of course isn’t always easy to obtain.

I suppose that's why everyone thought she was going out of the public eye when she left. Sadly, the comparisons will continue, especially as the split might not have been amicable. Happened to Ginger spice as above, but social media has taken it all to a whole new level. The media will also try to pit the rest of the girls against each other, but their friendship will weaken any such efforts. If your band was successful, the shadows will haunt you forever - for good or for bad.

Does Jesy have the thick skin to withstand the media? She needs to have a frank conversation with her therapist and her close friends.

She’s been in the industry for 12 years. She knows how the press works.

 

‘Jesy not speaking to Little Mix’ will get her tons of clicks and bring more attention to her song than anything else she has to say. She should be grateful for the attention and if not, then leave the music industry. Seriously. She had it rough in the early days of X Factor and Little Mix, she had the documentary about her mental health and now she’s clearly still finding the fame and music industry difficult.

 

Girl just LEAVE. Look after your mental health and scrap this solo career attempt. This isn’t even me being shady but ffs, it is crazy watching someone go through so much ridicule and criticism (warranted or not) and complaining about it??

Why do we know who Jesy Nelson is at all?

• The X Factor in which she was put together into a band because she didn't make the cut as a solo artist.
• Literally a decade of being a part of Little Mix
• A disastrous solo career launch, followed by a series of live performances that were memorable for all the wrong reasons, that she and her team didn't lean into and/or see the funny side of at all
• Being dropped from her record label as a result

And then she hasn't actually really addressed any of the above in any subsequent interview. Of course the media are going to ask! This is literally what her narrative of 'how she got here' is coming from. If anything it comes across unnatural for her to NOT address any of those things, and likely she'll keep being asked until she does because that's where most of the public interest is.

 

Not defending the media but this is what they do and what they’ll continue to do until the end of time. Every Spice Girls member is asked about the Spice Girls in every interview, even asking about if a reunion is on the cards just after they’ve reunited for a tour. Every actor in Friends gets asked about Friends in every interview despite it ending nearly 20 years ago and them being clear that a revival won’t ever happen.

 

Unfortunately she needs better preparation as to how to answer these questions in the aim of avoiding such press about it.

She answered the question fine though? She didn’t say anything negative and she was beyond complementary of the girls. If Jesy has to accept that this is how the media behave then the fanbase have to accept that her words will get spun and articles will be made out of a few sentences.

Unfortunately this has been going on for decades with all bands. I don’t quite recall but what was it like with Robbie Williams and Take That.

I mean you only have to look on LM TikTok/Twitter to see that’s not the case. If Jesy didn’t say anything about it people would moan that she is perpetuating rumours of a feud and allowing the girls to take unnecessary heat etc.

So someone who has been in the public eye for 11 years(?) and who surely knows how the media works and how they play against you as much as they play with you posts this video up? It's always been the nature of the beast, and unless her PR have said any questions about Little Mix were off limits, then really you're giving them an open goal.

 

And even regardless of that, as Klaus has correctly pointed out, if you've been part of a successful pop group or cast member on a long running TV show, regardless of if you're actively part of it at any given point or not, rare is the time the line of questioning won't dwell on it in some form or another.

 

Honestly, until she realises this for herself - which hopefully is sooner rather than later - she is better off being out of trying to push solo music altogether. She already did enough damage and burned a lot of bridges with the fire sale that was "Boyz". And this new one is hardly much better.

 

She would be better advised to go work on herself, do some growing, taking ownership and making genuine amends for her behaviour that she's been rightly called out for and still hasn't addressed, and ultimately doing something else fulfilling with her life until such a time comes that she becomes part of the Little Mix fold again, whenever that may be.
