May 7, 20232 yr Superb number 1. The fact it wasn’t a huge hit will always be a travesty Side note - I did not know Superstar was a cover. I always have this memory of seeing her at Party In The Park when Superstar first came out and barely anyone knew who she was (I loved songs from her first album so loved it!)
May 7, 20232 yr Thanks for hosting Nina! I do prefer Superstar myself but it’s quite nice that a song that wasn’t such a huge hit does manage to win one of these rates.
May 7, 20232 yr I always have this memory of seeing her at Party In The Park when Superstar first came out and barely anyone knew who she was (I loved songs from her first album so loved it!) Oh I was there for that! Bout had just flopped and she said “are you all going to buy my new single?” and there was silence and then she said “everybody sing eh-oh eh-oh eh-oh”, and I thought oh gawd she’s clearly over. :)
May 7, 20232 yr 'Superstar' is one of those songs that's so incredibly overplayed that I never have the inclination to listen to it, but I always get my life to it if I hear it on a night out. 'Beware of the Dog' is soooo good! I think it did alright for her considering she was in a less than desirable position after her album had just bombed and it wasn't a sound that was hugely popular at that time. One thing I will say (without meaning to be shady) is that this rate had reinforced my view she was probably the most average popstar to have ever existed. Edited May 7, 20232 yr by Jessie Where
