If it wasn't in Semi-Final 2 I'd have said Georgia: Iru - Echo... but that semi is FAR weaker than the first so I can see it getting through. Seen as a potential winner by many, at least a potential jury winner, but I struggle to listen to it, it's not an enjoyable 3 minutes. 09. Will we be heading back to Scandanavia next year? Yes 10. Belgium - from being a NF winner that no one saw coming, to getting 40-50 points from the televote in the final, which will be a SMASH for Belgium when compared to how they've done post-Blanche 11. Not a great running order, I think he's quite off-putting as a performer and it's very possible that Europe won't 'get' the song (because what is there to get? It's overhyped shit!) 12. I think there are only three (Spain, Serbia, Romania) that I would say I HATE with a passion, San Marino and Ukraine are very much meh but everything else is at least decent and I am struggling to narrow down to ten qualifiers in each semi-final (though I think with semi-final 2, that's more because a lot of the songs are mid, rather than having many that I really really love) 14. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being not strong and 10 being extremely strong), how strong are the songs in this years contest? 8 - overall I think the standard is rather good. There’s only a handful I loathe, a handful of boring dull ballads from the usual suspects but beyond them the quality is solid. And the UK again is not embarrassing us so that’s a plus 14. Do you think the UK will finish in the top half (1-13)? Yes, I think it’s gonna come between 8th and 13th on the night. 15. Who do you *think* will win? Sweden. I think Queen Loreen will have the best combined vote. But if the Jury doesn’t murder Käärijä or gets behind the exceedingly clever and layered Austria then either of those will be a real threat Overall, underestimating the queen/founder of modern ESC would be a fools errand. But if the Jury actually does what they’re supposed to do and actually appreciate musicality and not just insipid mor ballads by a bunch of bland men, then Austria and Finland are viable threats to the crown. Käärijä is an incredibly smart mix of genres and musical styles in a way that works like peak Xenomania (as was previously noted by I think Blacksquare - apols is this is miscredited) and Austria is a really clever message wrapped up in a catchy and well crafted slice of pop that has so much depth to it
