May 6, 20232 yr Author I thought this was fantastic! My only issue with this is my usual gripe about movies being longer than they should be! A huge emotional rollercoaster. I thought Rocket's entire backstory was incredibly well done. One of the best written stories I've seen in any Superhero movie, personally. I teared up more than once... just beautifully told and really incredibly well executed. I thought Chukwudi Iwuji was fantastic as The High Evolutionary and James Gunn managed to get him to be one of the most human but also one of the most heinous, vicious and cruel villains ever in a Superhero movie. I didn't hate or dislike these particular plot points, but there were one or two that could have been avoided that I felt just dragged the movie on to be longer than it needed to be. I feel like there were shorter ways to get to the resolutions that these side plot points gave us and it still has the same kind of effect. But yeah, I loved this and it was a great final conclusion to one of the most consistently strong trilogies in movie history, I am very excited for Gunn's work with DC. I think he's going to be the kick that DC needs. The soundtrack didn't hook me on first listen, but I'm re-watching it in IMAX on Wednesday so I am very much looking forward to just embracing it all (and crying!!!!) again.
May 7, 20232 yr I saw it on Thursday and agree with everything you said above! There were lots of moments that made me laugh out loud and I completely welled up on about 4 occasions. I genuinely thought that a character was going to die at some point and I'm not sure whether I'm disappointed that no one did! The only 'meh' moments for me were the end credits scenes to be honest. Here's hoping that this will help the MCU get back on track after the last few films, but the Marvels trailer isn't filling me with much confidence...
May 9, 20232 yr Author Saw this again yesterday (unplanned) and seeing it again in IMAX tomorrow. Just a great movie. Usually I'd be complaining that they were "too scared" to kill off any of the characters and although it definitely could have happened (Star-Lord especially... surely that was way too late for him to even recover, no?? Lol) I'm actually not bothered it didn't. Every emotional beat is hit perfectly. I still think the length of the movie is a bit too long, but it is what it is.
May 10, 20232 yr Yes I was weeping several times, trying hard not to be noticed. Very touching at the end, especially, human moments always resonate with me. Plus, animal rights, lots of funny scenes, "family", a good baddie, a great cast. I thought it was trying too hard for a lot of the film, a bit manic, but I forgave that in the last half hour. Don't think it's quite up to 1 standard but maybe above 2. The soundtrack is not as good this time, for me, as they strayed away from 70's music, I liked that retro vibe in the previous films. As for the new line-up (?) hmm lacks oomph, though in terms of Avengers cross-overs it won't cost as much for actors, that's for sure....! 8 out of 10.
May 17, 20232 yr I am here to announce that I am now a Phylla stan, I gotta support another Britney stan
May 19, 20232 yr I really quite enjoyed this film. Felt like a nice conclusion to the guardians story and overall arc. Of course this being money grabbing Disney they’ll keep getting wheeled out for another decade but this would be a great place to leave these characters and focus on the rest of the MCU for a while. Tho tbh I’m getting to the point where I’m ready to leave the MCU behind entirely given the over saturation of content.
December 10, 20231 yr By the way, after the final installment of The Avengers, I never watched any superhero movies again
