ROBBIE WILLIAMS - PRODE & SELF PREJUDICE ART EXHIBITION

When it comes to a metamorphosis, Robbie Williams is no stranger to embracing evolution with a bit of wit and an exposed heart.

Born on February 13, 1974, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, Robert Peter Williams catapulted to fame as a member of the iconic boy band Take That in the early 1990s - Iconic hits include "Back for Good" and "Never Forget."

However, Robbie's itch for creative independence and personal struggles led to his departure in 1995, marking the start of his solo career. In 1997, Robbie Williams released the international hit single “Angels,” propelling him to superstardom.

Experiencing ups and downs in his career, Robbie Williams felt the pressures in his professional and private life, and this stormy journey pushed him in and out of rehab. During his last stint in rehab in the 90s, the artist began a self-reflective journey - embracing the light and the dark - to transform inner demons into self-loving angels. Now, after years of creating art daily, Robbie Williams draws, paints and opens his visual diary that documents his mental health journey through creative expression. Using humour and an honest vulnerability, Williams gives artistic form to the humanistic truths that can touch us, make us laugh and spark pride within ourselves.

Now, Robbie Williams demonstrates his dedication and ability to connect with audiences in a new art form for the public, in the exhibition Pride and Self-Prejudice. Moco Museum Amsterdam is proud to debut the art of Robbie Williams in his first solo exhibition, featuring standout pieces such as “I Deserve Every Drop of Love” and “Your Mental Illness”.

Robbie Williams opens his own art exhibition in Amsterdam

Robbie Williams (50) will open his own exhibition 'Pride and Self-Prejudice' at the Moco Museum in Amsterdam on 7 March for modern art and digital art. The British singer's exhibition consists of art that he has created over the years and is open to the public from March 8 to July 8.

"Making art allows me to express myself, something that has helped me tremendously over the years with challenges on my path"

"Making art allows me to express myself, something that has helped me tremendously over the years with challenges along the way," Robbie says. "Obviously, at certain points in my career, I was feeling bad about myself and in those times, art, and humor, were important tools for me."

It is the first time that some of Robbie's artistic work has been exhibited. Visitors to the exhibition are also invited to look at themselves by filling out a card where they can write five positive things about themselves. During a dark period in his life, Williams himself was unable to do so. With his art, the singer hopes to show 'the healing power' of it and to 'touch, inspire and connect' visitors.

In addition to a branch in Amsterdam, the Moco Museum also has a location in Barcelona. The museum has a collection with works by Banksy, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, among others. Famous visitors such as former President Barack Obama of the United States, director Steven Spielberg, tennis star Venus Williams and singer Dua Lipa have already been to the museum.

Robbie Williams opens his own art exhibition in Amsterdam

Art is not the first association with the name Robbie Williams. But over the years, the British singer has created quite a few works of art. A number of them are coming to Amsterdam. At the beginning of March, Williams will open his first own art exhibition there, Pride and Self-Prejudice.

The superstar, who turned 50 on Tuesday, is known for songs such as Angels, Rock DJ and Let Me Entertain You. His turbulent life in the public eye is taking a toll on his mental health. Recently, he opened up about it in a Netflix documentary about his life, Robbie Williams.

Inner Demons

For years, Williams used drugs and alcohol. During his first rehab period in the 90s of the last century, when he was still part of the band Take That, he started making art to deal with his "inner demons". And he never stopped, he does it almost every day.

He says: "Making art allows me to express myself, something that has helped me tremendously over the years with challenges on my path. Obviously, at certain points in my career, I felt bad about myself, and in those times, art and humor were important tools for me."

The singer takes visitors to the exhibition into his psyche. He hopes to inspire them to look inward "to promote self-love and acceptance," the museum says. Visitors are given a card on which they can write five positive things about themselves. "Something Robbie himself couldn't do during his deep valleys."

Williams says he is pleased with the collaboration with the private Moco Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at Museumplein. "I hope that this exhibition shows the healing power of art and can touch, inspire and connect visitors."

A first for Amsterdam's museum: it is the first to show art by Robbie Williams

He is not only the best-selling British solo artist, but also an artist. Robbie Williams, who turned fifty this week, is collaborating with the Moco Museum in Amsterdam for his first own exhibition. The exhibition Pride and Self-Prejudice can be seen there from 8 March to 8 July.

n the recent Netflix series about the life of the superstar, known for songs such as Angels and Let me entertain you, it can be seen that the downside of fame took a heavy toll on his mental health. Williams appears to have made art during his first rehab period in the 90s, to deal with his inner demons. He has continued to do this on a daily basis all these years. Now, for the first time, some of his work is being exhibited. And in Amsterdam.

Healing power

"Making art allows me to express myself, something that has helped me tremendously over the years with challenges on my path. Obviously, at certain times in my career, I was feeling bad about myself and in those times, art, and humor, were important tools for me," the singer says. He expresses the hope that his exhibition will show and inspire 'the healing power of art'. During the exhibition, visitors will receive a card on which they can write five positive things about themselves. Something Williams himself was unable to do during his deep valleys. The exhibition, also explicitly aimed at young people, focuses on self-love and acceptance in a fast-paced world full of stimuli, opinions and conflict.

Moco presents Robbie Williams: Pride and Self-Prejudice

Imagine Peace in Your Mind

…so command the words from the first ever art exhibition by British pop icon Robbie Williams. With gentle invitations, caricature forms and dry humour, this series of artworks on mental health take us to a place where healing is possible: the creative imagination.

The bold, conversational forms of street art have always held a special place in Robbie Williams’ heart, who has refined his own art as a daily practice since the 90s. But this exhibition is about you, the viewer, as much as the artist: prepare to laugh, self-reflect and leave with a new perspective on the healing power of art.

What’s it all about

The artworks grew from Robbie’s honest engagement with external pressure, shame, fear and other inner demons, so that he can now proudly say, what “would destroy me has also made me successful.” With caricature forms and dry humour, these unique pieces hold a powerful antidote to a sometimes cruel world, and our internal struggles.

In the presence of these playful but potent works, we can’t help but look inward and find a flood of relief in their brave vulnerability. We’re invited to embrace light and dark alike, and initiate our own healing journey.

What to expect

One room bursts with colour; another scaled down black and white. How will the contrast affect the message behind the works? Additionally, in digital rooms, the artworks will come to life.

Quotes will make you stop, think, laugh, and question the pressure to present inner worlds in a consistent, understandable way for the outside world. With a stream of consciousness style these works inspire release and mental freedom.

Collect your ‘Give Me Five’ card at the end of the exhibition and free up some space for self acceptance and self love. This is a reminder of what makes you you, so carry it in your pocket and spread the healing power of art onwards!

Coming Soon to Moco Museum Amsterdam March 8.

PRIDE AND SELF-PREJUDICE' ART EXHIBITION IN AMSTERDAM

Robbie Williams announces his first solo art exhibition titled ‘Pride and Self-Prejudice’. Featuring pieces the artist has crafted over the years, the exhibition will open on March 8th at Moco Museum in Amsterdam.

“I love to express myself through my art, and over many years it’s helped me with some of the challenges I’ve faced. It’s well documented that at times I’ve experienced poor mental health, and during these times art, and humour, have been really useful tools for me. I’m delighted to be working with Moco Museum and I hope that this exhibition will help demonstrate the healing power of art, and perhaps inspire, connect and intrigue those who come to experience it. Rob x”
