September 19, 20231 yr She can try every trick she can to get #1 but she ain’t gonna get it as she’s up against Ed Sheeran I don’t think their aim is anywhere near #1 tbh - I’m sure they are wanting a Top 10 and have dropped the price based on pre-orders (or lack of).
September 21, 20231 yr Jorja Smith nabbed the Strictly Come Dancing performance slot next weekend (release week), which is good for her, unfortunate for Mae, but she does have Graham Norton and hopefully will get other daytime opportunities.
September 21, 20231 yr ^^ I think Mae will snatch any bit of promo that comes her way tbh - radio, daytime TV etc., if they will have her then she’ll be on!
September 22, 20231 yr She can try every trick she can to get #1 but she ain’t gonna get it as she’s up against Ed Sheeran Why do you keep pushing this weird narrative about her chasing a #1? I think her team must know she'll be lucky to get Top 20.
September 29, 20231 yr I absolutely love her as a person and I do think I Wrote A Song and Me, Myself & I are solid pop songs but the rest is all a bit if a slog and her voice is actually kind of annoying too :(
September 29, 20231 yr I really like the album on first listen, I would love to see it do decently for her - surely she can pass the 3.8k ish needed for a Top 20. She has over 4 million Spotify listeners and have added her big collab to the album - I know streams will be downgraded but it’ll help. I think she’ll be everywhere this week and all over socials pushing the album, she has Banquet personally signed, I know they have done a price cut but I think they’ll need a £4.99 CD / £19.99 vinyl / £4.99 iTunes price reductions. Also she has signed vinyl but they should have pushed a cheap signed CD option.
September 29, 20231 yr The album is decent overall, but I think "Me, Myself and I" is the best track. "I Wrote A Song" feels out of place, as its theme is quite shallow. At times, it feels like she is trying to emulate RAYE or Mimi Webb in terms of themes, but the melodies are lacking and therefore forgettable in comparison. Edited September 29, 20231 yr by _Clo_
September 29, 20231 yr I really like the album on first listen, I would love to see it do decently for her - surely she can pass the 3.8k ish needed for a Top 20. Hmmmm I am not convinced. The album market is dead and her promo on socials have been getting no traction. He has hidden her likes now but her Banquet Record signing one got barely a few hundred likes most of the day before the likes were hidden. I’m predicting 1.5-2k end of week max. I can see this entering at somewhere between #80-#100 on the album chart.
September 29, 20231 yr I’m predicting 1.5-2k end of week max. I can see this entering at somewhere between #80-#100 on the album chart. :drama: Poor Mae if that happens.
September 30, 20231 yr I’m actually really pleasantly surprised by this album though. The worst songs are definitely the singles… why they chose ‘Me, Myself & I’, ‘MTJL’ and ‘Written By A Woman’ as the post-Eurovision songs, I will never know. It basically made me write this album off as the material was so weak. ‘Nervous’, ‘Something New’, ‘Little Bit Sad’ and ‘Miss America’ are really lovely and well-produced 80s leaning pop songs. I would have had no clue there were songs of this quality on this album if I hadn’t decided to look past the singles. The two former ones would have been GREAT follow ups to IWAS.
September 30, 20231 yr Mae's album climbed significantly on Amazon after her appearance on Graham Norton, but I suspect her team spent more on advertising than they earned in pre-orders. The song entered at #38 on iTunes which is its highest peak. @1707905830022979981 Jorja Smith is performing on Strictly, curious to see which TV promotion is more effective.
September 30, 20231 yr Her performance on GN last night was good and the song is catchy (I also loved her aweness of Kylie when she hugged her) I don't think the album will be huge but think she should manage to go top 40 with it or possibly top 30.
September 30, 20231 yr It's lovely to see how much she genuinely appreciates releasing her album. She said she was worried about her pop career before "Better Days" was a hit, so it's great that her label released it after Eurovision. I'm not sure how long her career as a popstar will last, but I wish her all the best. Based on my prediction of 2,936 sales, I think she has a good chance of breaking the top 40, but that might be too optimistic because she hasn’t got any more signings or promo booked in. September 30, 20231 yr I’m really rooting for her but the album is a bit of a slog. The amount of people’s names used just so she can rhyme them off something is just lazy songwriting.
September 30, 20231 yr I think she’s really likable but the GP are not taking to her music (I don’t think it has anything to do with her ESC performance either). The single hasn’t made the Top 30 on iTunes yet and the album climbed from #9 to #8 after the show was aired (Kylie climbed from #7 to #2).
September 30, 20231 yr Had a listen to the album. I was expecting there to be a song or two that would have been better for Eurovision but there just isn’t. It says a lot when ‘I Wrote A Song’ is the stand out track for me.
