Well nearly all of her hits were before I was born to be fair :lol: and none of the others were anywhere near as big, I don't think any of them have really stayed in the public consciousness / continued getting any notable radio play. (I don't really go out of my way to listen to older music that much and certainly not for an artist whose big hit is a song I don't even like oop). NC2U has over 10 times as many streams on Spotify as her second most popular song!

 

Just remembered she also had an appearance in BJSC (her feature on Conjure One's 'Tears From The Moon') but it was the opposite semi from me so can't remember if I ever heard that one.

I don't understand why people are that surprised that people aren't that familiar with Sinead's work outside of her one big hit? She was always a bigger by name and personality than for her music, if that makes sense. Also going back to the earlier comment where someone was shocked that teenagers had never heard NC2U - my daughter has just turned 13 and she doesn't know the song and she's never heard of Sinead O'Connor, and neither have any of her friends. I know it was a huge hit at the time but I just don't see why young people would know it, it's not exactly a radio staple.

Agree Mango! Mine are teenagers and love all types of music however wouldn’t know NC2U. It’s a classic but not in the same way some others out around the same time are in my opinion!

I think the first time I heard Sinéad O'Connor's name was actually from this Peter Serafinowicz sketch lol

 

I always saw NC2U as one that had stood the test of time and would have imagined it would be familiar to most people.

 

It's understandable that a lot of people wouldn't be familiar with the rest of her discography though as she never had a single that came close to replicating the success. Personally I only know two songs by her other than NC2U.

'MELTDOWN' (w/ Drake) now Travis' highest song on Apple, up to #7! The demand for 'SICKO MODE' part 2 is real x 'HYAENA' down to #9 and 'THANK GOD' still at #12. The versions of 'K-POP' have been combined now, Apple much quicker to fix this this time than they were with 'Sprinter'.

 

Calvin/Sam up to #38, and Chase And Status et al. are in at #123 now (maybe now coming for another top 40 as lead artist very soon after their return as 2nd billed?)

not even back in the day Sinead was that well know, people knew her cos of NC2U and cos the things she did like the Pope picture etc but

people never cared so much about her original songs and her albums, which is a pity cos her songwriting was amazing in the early days

so totally normal that most people only know NC2U

 

in a way, Sinead, after the pope incident, was like the 1st artist cancelled, years before the cancel culture

Its like if you asked peoe to name a rick astley song other than Never gonna give you up, and thats with him releasing a few albums recently

I understand why people always relate nothing compares to you to sinead all the time as non of her other releases were anywhere close been as big as it and it is a great song, I do love it but also prefer 1 or 2 other songs by her that were only minor chart entries, I would recommend people checking out her greatest hits.
