Posted July 13, 20232 yr U.K. chart run: 4-10-10-13-12-6-6-12-13-30-39-43-49-52->14 Today marks 5 years since Ariana released 'God is a woman' as the second single from sweetener! It was originally written for Camila Cabello but she claimed that it didn't work for her. The song was then reworked by Ariana alongside the heavyweight team of Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Rickard Göransson and Ilya. 'God is a woman' is a trap-pop song where Ari confidently explores her femininity, sexuality and a more spiritual side. It is accompanied by a highly memorable video that is inspired by works of art such as Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam, mythology and the female body. The Queen of Pop herself Madonna even makes a vocal cameo to present a monologue. The title was a controversial move for her in the U.S. but she bagged another top 10 hit there nevertheless, with a #8 peak, while it achieved a strong #4 placement here in the U.K. kHLHSlExFis How do you feel about 'God is a woman' five years on?
July 13, 20232 yr Author I remember initially not getting this song but then it hit me like a tonne of bricks out of nowhere and became my favourite single of hers to date! The VMAs performance sold it to me even further and made me realise how much of a star she had become. The 1-2 punch of 'no tears left to cry' and this really made me take notice even more than before  What a music video too!! There is a collection on her site to celebrate 5 years - not sure if I'll get anything (I do already have a God is a woman jumper and a shirt where she has her fingers in the Earth :kink:) although the cropped vest is quite cute
July 13, 20232 yr My favourite music video shes ever done and one of my favourite live performances shes ever done is the VMAs performance of this. I love it! It felt like it should have been bigger even though it did smash but it’s such a song! The gospel part at the end makes me wish it was extended slightly so it went off even more but it was the perfect choice to follow up no tears left to cry and I’d say this is amongst her very best for me
July 14, 20232 yr It's astonishing, she has not put out anything better since. I had such high hopes for Sweetener based on 'No Tears' and this, but it was possibly the biggest disappointment ever in the end
July 15, 20232 yr Author The gospel part at the end makes me wish it was extended slightly so it went off even more We need a Grande version project of extended Ariana songs including this and 'no tears left to cry' with the music video intro tbh :kink: Funnily enough I can imagine Camila's voice on this but it would be nuch lower key The Camila demo actually leaked quite recently (as did a clip of a Camila feat. Rita Ora version), it's out there on YouTube  I normally stay away from these leaks but curiosity got the better of me on this one, I'm so grateful that the foundations of the song fell into Ari's lap in the end, her version just feels so right
