I think this song will work out really great for her from a critical standpoint. It won't, and isn't, the biggest hit of her career and performance-wise, might feel like a step down from Future Nostalgia. But every review I've seen of this is super strong and gives off this essence that she's more than just a pop artist and I think long term, that will really benefit her as a way of standing apart from her peers.

Songs like this get you the big name festival bookings that might make some pop artists look "uncool" if they were to appear on the same stage. Songs like this give you longevity in the business because you're not just rehashing the same music album after album and hoping for the best. I think this really is a sonically impressive song from Dua that helps to push her as a stronger force for album sales, and not just a cute pop girl.

All that being said, it's still doing well anyway - it's still absolutely a success whichever way you look at it. Not as resounding as we may have hoped for, but a success none the less.

Agree 100%. It's also pretty stable on the streaming charts now, just keeps getting bumped down whenever the Christmas tracks have a big update.

I won't be surprised if Houdini appears high on the critics year-end lists. It got really good reviews like you said.

I agree with Rob commentary but I also little frustrated that I’m feeling like Dua isn’t really doing much herself about the song.

I don’t know if there is a strategy saved for January or not but she’s kinds been silenced!!!

She's really living her life and not doing much promo

All news outlets here in Denmark are mentioning that Dua was in Copenhagen for the weekend doing tourism

eating at various restaurants and even at a museum!! :o

We must be hearing a completely different song... I enjoy 'Houdini' but it is EXACTLY what I expected a new Dua song to sound like. It is very similar to what she's previously released.

It's not the massive switch-up in sound like she was claiming it would be, but I think it retains an element of what she was doing beforehand and

pushes it forward (like how you can definitely hear Tame Impala's influence in places) and the structure of it is quite unconventional.

Eep! Kinda makes sense as Dance The Night is still smashing on airplay in the US

Don't Start Now went 30 – 46 in its first 2 weeks so there's still hope for Houdini to bounce back in the new year I guess.

The synths that come in towards the end elevate the song from being very mediocre to a really great piece of work.
I quite like the extended version - I need to listen again, I suspect I'll end up making a middle version myself with the best bits

In love with the extended version

New lyrics :cheer:

Weave the ceiling from tomorrow

Free the people from daylights

All the plans go out the window

When we're out this late at night
