Random subject because it came on my playlist randomly yesterday! :)

Dua is huge on streaming and a UK radio airplay darling, it still amazes me that this song charted so low. I wasn't expecting it to be #1 but given this came during the Future Nostalgia phase, I was hoping it would at least make top 40, even for a week. There was plenty of buzz no doubt thanks to Dua telling us all that she duets with her idol Kylie that the song could've charted on the basis of streaming + word of mouth alone; it didn't need an official radio release date, etc .etc.

So what went "wrong"?

Minimal exposure, no promo, limited airplay, hardly any notification of its release from the artists and no streaming support.

Whacking Dua on a track wasn’t going to make it a hit without the above.

I mean, it it was a new Dua track featuring Kylie maybe. I think at that point a Kylie track which already exists with Dua tacked on wasn't ever gonna do much.

I don't believe it was that hyped outside of a small sub-section of the internet. Plus We're Good, Potion and Sweetest Pie have shown Dua's name isn't an automatic guarantee of success.

I always felt real groove might have done a bit better, the dua lipa feature raised by hopes but it was a song i always felt if released by somone more popular/current it would have done far better as it was a very modern release in terms of similar sounds in the charts at the time.
The Dua version was thrown out on New Year's Eve, not the most ideal date to get attention! Then the approach was very staggered, with remixes 20th January 2021, Initial Talk remix 5th March, vinyl 30th April). I think it did pretty well to make the Top 100 on two separate occasions. I just don't think it was ever destined to be a big hit just because of Dua's involvement.
