His last era was a huge flop. If he had allowed more time since the = album it might have done ok.

I wouldn’t call it a flop. It’s not done as well as his other albums but he only released one single from it which got to no1. The album also reached no1 too.

Agreed, it wasn't a "huge flop" at all. Underperformance by his standards, for sure, but it was still a success. He's just had far bigger successes in the past and is obviously not as big as he once was.

I'm surprised he didn't even attempt to push anything more off -, though it was obvious nothing was really sticking beyond Eyes Closed anyway. I'm definitely not ready for new music from him yet, I like Ed but I feel like I need a break from him (and I think the music quality would probably benefit from that too, I think = and - combined could make a strong album but neither are strong enough on their own imo).

Fully agree with your post and I like him aswell but think he needs to take an extended break and not release anything including features etc and come back refreshed and recharged.

The album is rumoured to release on September 29th.
Rumoure has it that he has pushed it back a week to this date because he doesn't want to get out performed by Kelly Clarkson.

Smart man.

I think it's more Olivia Rodrigo he'd want to avoid clashing with than Kelly Clarkson lmao
You are actually incorrect and I am not hearing otherwise!!!

(Serious though I really hope she holds on for a 3rd week )

So now the album series is gonna continue with Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer?

No more Square Root or Circumference Area?

I think we're all forgetting a certain diminutive Antipodean popstrel he's not taken the risk of clashing with the week before! :teresa:

that's what I thought too, if he wants to release on the 1st day of autumn cos the album is called Autumn blah blah, so on the 21st, he would be against Kylie

The Aaron Dessner effect, wow! Twice in a year just like folkevermore. So excited!

Also, not an independent release as I think some people were saying before.

Two albums in six months, wow! I wonder if this will contain any big hits.

I'll whisper it but Subtract is currently my favourite album of the year so far...so as much as he's been overexposed and needs a break, I'm not mad about it.

At least he’s avoided Kylie release week :kink:

Even if he released at the same time as Kylie, there’s a chance he’d beat her

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Kylie beat Ed’s sales. Artists releasing two albums in quick succession always results in quite a drop in sales anyway and it just feels Ed’s ability to command hype is decreasing more and more.
