20. Don't Panic = Avg Score – 6.96 – (Highest Score (10) RyanFM // Lowest Score (3) Cow P, JulianT)

Doing 20 and 11 as individuals here! Starting at 20 with 'Don't Panic' was the fourth single from the bands debut album Parachutes but wasn't really given proper single treatment in the UK as they felt the three singles were enough and so released it in countries which had not been already overdosed by 'Yellow' and 'Trouble'. It has with it an animated video of a water cycle with the band as two dimensional paper cutouts doing chores when floods, volcanoes and electric stocks disturb the earth.

Lost is so underrated in Coldplay's back catalogue, such an epic song. Thrilled we have got one of Viva la Vida's great tracks to come with Lovers in Japan *.

18. Shiver = Avg Score – 7.20 (Highest Score (11) (RabbitFurCoat, coi, RyanFM // Lowest Score (3) JulianT)

19. Princess Of China (Ft Rihanna) = Avg Score – 7.12 (Highest Score (11) (Popchartfreak, Bjork) // Lowest Score (1) RabbitFurCoat)

A couple of songs that received some 11's here now. 'Princess Of China' was the fourth single to taken from Mylo Xyloto and Rihanna came along for the ride in the form of a collab. It was the first time Coldplay enlisted on a big female star and it produced a splendid track. 'Shiver' the very first release of the 21 Century lands 18th and picked up 3 11's whilst 3 being it's lowest score. This wasn't the song to land the bands big break as it only peaked at 35 and as it would turn out the two that followed and turned it around for them at the beginning are unsurprisingly still to come!

'Princess of China' is one of their few pop collaborations that really worked. Fantastic, interesting song with very heartfelt singing.

'Shiver' is a bit of a jangly earworm.

'Don't Panic' lovely understated track. Of course there was this rather groovy Fragma-ish cover that just misses the top 40. :music:

16. Charlie Brown = Avg Score - 7.32 – (Highest Score (10) Michael, Brer // Lowest Score (3) Nina West)

17. Life In Technicolor II - Avg Score = 7.29 - (Highest Score (10) Jester, Michael, coi, seven. // (Lowest Score (-1) JulianT)

'Life In Technicolor II' is out at 17 which has done better than I'd have thought it would. It was taken off Prospekt's March EP instead of from their Viva La Vida album and despite not being a promotional effort the group did release it as single in 2009 where it peaked at #28. It picked up an strong set of 10's, 4 to be precise! 'Charlie Brown' is the 3rd highest of the singles from Mylo Xyloto and was also the 3rd single off the album and collected two 10's!

15. A Sky Full Of Stars = Avg Score – 7.36 – (Highest Score (11) gooddelta, Cow P // Lowest Score (-1) seven.)

Not the last song from Ghost Stories but top 15 nonetheless and it's the Avicii produced 'A Sky Full Of Stars' which picked up two 11's but also received an unfortunate -1 as well. It peaked within the top 10, #9 and is the highest charting UK single from this era, one place above 'Magic' which peaked at 10. There's a lot of videos of the band going through streets and this one was no different. Lead single off X&Y also pops up in 'Speed Of Sound' which picked up five 10 scores. It was a good introduction to this era for them even though their follow up completely overshadows it now. It does get the last laugh in the form of highest peaking single of the era though.

Good to see Life In Technicolor II have a strong showing, the instrumental was great but it worked so well with the vocal added. The whole of that Prospekt's March EP was excellent.

It was taken off Prospekt's March EP instead of from their Viva La Vida album and despite not being a promotional effort the group did release it as single in 2009 where it peaked at #90. Two absolute BANGERS!! Euphoric Coldplay at their best!! SoS is, of course, a CLASSIC too! Sky Full of Stars also exists in their catalogue.

Just catching up here. Magic, Don't Panic, Princess Of China, Charlie Brown & Speed Of Sound are my favourites of the drop-outs.

Roba -FYI Life in Technicolour II peaked at 28 not 90. You're doing great, mind - really enjoying this thread!

I'm thinking these are falling in the right kind of order - 'Speed of Sound' despite being one of their biggest hits on paper, was a wee bit turgid for my liking. 'X and Y' album overall was a lot better - in fact I'd put SOS as the weakest track on it!

'A Sky fall of Stars' was euphoric moment although I'm not totally keen on it and not sure why. Tiny bit contrived maybe?

'Life in Technicolour II' was during their imperial phase and adding words to that instrumental (which heavily interpolated the amazing John Hopkins) just worked really well. Graceful, happy song.

'Charlie Brown' has a great riff. Thought it would flop as everyone was still into 'Paradise' when that came out but thanks to loads of big promotional slots it did make the top 40 which was pleasing.

Was I really that harsh on Life In Technicolor II LOL? It doesn’t really go anywhere for me but it’s not terrible by any means. The only offence is the spelling haha.

I used the full range of scores though so -1 just meant my least favourite. Where I gave 3 for Don’t Panic and Shiver that means they were just outside my bottom 10 and I do actually really like those despite being the lowest scorer.

I’ve always adored Speed Of Sound - takes you on such a ride.

Oh yes I'm reading off a different place on Wikipedia I think :P

Will edit that in and glad you are enjoying the thread ^_^

'Don't Panic' is one of their earlier songs that I'm less famliar with but it is always a great one to revisit. A little surprised to see 'Shiver' so high as that one is a bit of a false start to their top 40 discography imo. I do appreciate 'Princess Of China' for actually being a more leftfield/weird song than you would expect from a Rihanna collab at the height of their popularity! 'Charlie Brown' is an absolute anthem, if I ever get to see them live that'd definitely be one of the ones I look forward to hearing the most  'A Sky Full Of Stars' is definitely more of a sellout obvious attempt at a hit single in a similar vein to 'Something Just Like This' but idk it hits the spot so much better for me, one of my favourite Avicii productions, can see why it has its detractors but happy it has got a decent result here. A bit of a surprise to see 'Speed Of Sound' missing the top 10 - and wow 'Midnight' still being yet to come, I remember being very disappointed at the early scores it was getting but I guess it must have picked up later!

Never liked 'Speed of Sound' at all.

'Don't Panic' is rather good though, they had so many singles from their early days that weren't released properly! Also I appreciate 'A Sky Full of Stars' for being something different in their discography and it is an absolute anthem.

12. Midnight = Avg Score - 7.56 – (Highest Score (11) Chez Wombat, RabbitFurCoat, Smint, Brer // Lowest Score (1) Popchartfreak)

13. Lovers In Japan = Avg Score - 7.45 – (Highest Score (10) Chez Wombat, Michael // Lowest Score (4) jimwatts, I am Kenough)

Getting out of that tussle and placing 13th is 'Lovers In Japan'. Released as a promotional only single in 2008. It was the one I noticed right at the last minute and pmed people about adding in their rate and it turned out to be just as well as LIJ ended up doing fantastically and this is even without 3 people scoring it at all!. It picked up two 10's and the lowest scored points was 4 from Jim and Dot. 'Midnight' is 12th and picked up an impressive four 11's which certainly helped it's performance here but also did pick up scattered decent scores with an aside from about 3 or 4 members including Popchartfreak who only threw it a 1!

Midnight woulda been my 5th 11!! It's their bewt, most authentic, and most avant garde song since DaaohF, or maybe even X and Y!!!!

Lovers in Japan is true euphoric Coldplay unlike fakery like Sky Full of Stars.

Wow, I just realised something: you can expand tge size od this text box by pressing those arrows in the corner!! Did it by accident oh my
