Posted November 3, 20231 yr Omrp4QR_Rpo Today marks 20 years since 'Slow' was released as the lead single to Kylie's 9th studio album 'Body Language'. A minimalist electro/synth pop, the song was a critical success with many praising the production and vocals and subsequently hailing it as one of Kylie's best singles. It topped the charts in Australia, Denmark, Spain and the UK and earned nominations at Ivor Novello and the Grammys. 20 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of 'Slow'?
November 3, 20231 yr Video is excellent Was a little worried at the time as it was the next song after the Fever album success. She did well!
November 3, 20231 yr Hated it and the whole Body Language era at the time (I remember buying all variations of the single and album with zero interest) but now I think ‘Slow’ is a masterpiece. I was genuinely shocked at the time (but pleased) that it managed to get to #1.
November 3, 20231 yr f*** me, I feel old! I liked it at the time but over the last few years it's really grown massively in my affections, I'd even call it my favourite if her #1s these days. It was very brave of her to release something like this after Fever, one of the reasons I admire her so much! Also it I'm not mistaken it's Kylie's personal favourite song she's ever done.
November 3, 20231 yr Its again one of those visually great videos of Kylie being this sexy fierce lady. Strong fashion and make up and a dance routine, no matter how Slow is how Kylie gets success in her videos. Look at the Things We Do Fo Love Visualiser. Just perfect
November 3, 20231 yr Author This doesn't hit the heights of the first three 'Fever' singles for me, but I do really like it and it's clear why it's such a favourite for fans. In a way it does make sense as the next lead single from 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' as both have that minimalistic approach but, whilst 'Head' had that pulsatic beat and lyrical hook after hook, 'Slow' pulls you in with that slinky groove and seductive vocal. What I've appreciated about this song in recent years is how adaptable it is. I love the recent David Bowie and Donna Summer mash-ups and the Chemical Brothers remix from the time is one of Kylie's best remixes. There's a confidence when she sings this song that is just unmatched - Graham Norton Show performance from 2019 and the Fashion Awards performance in particular are great examples of this. Also, styling-wise, this was a career highlight. ADORE the Brigitte Bardot inspiration.
November 3, 20231 yr What a classic! Can’t believe it’s still not been certified in the UK though, surely must be close at this point.
November 3, 20231 yr I was genuinely shocked at the time (but pleased) that it managed to get to #1. Thinking about this, I know she was very lucky to have picked the right week but I felt it was inevitable it would go #1 as it was the biggest new release that week and there wasn't anything to prevent it (and of course following on from the Fever era it should've been a given)

The lowest #1 sale of the entire last third of the year and would have been #3 behind Busted and Britney/Madonna if released a week later! It's considered one of her best nowadays but I'm wondering if a lot of the general public didn't think of the song too favourably at the time. Seems telling that 'Red Blooded Woman' came close to matching the first week sales of 'Slow', despite only reaching #5. What a classic! Can’t believe it’s still not been certified in the UK though, surely must be close at this point. I think it might still be like 10k-15k away unfortunately, but I'm hoping the OCC have 'Slow' as their Chart Flashback next Thursday and give us a sales update!
November 3, 20231 yr Crazy to think that if 'Slow' wasn't released the week it was then it wouldn't have been a number one. Same with 'Spinning Around', which is even crazier to think!

November 3, 20231 yr Slow is a standout track from Kylie’s career. Totally different to anything else she has done and a million light years ahead of its follow up red blooded woman.
November 3, 20231 yr Author Same with 'Spinning Around', which is even crazier to think! Yeah that is mad. I wonder how much it would have affected how people viewed the success of the comeback, given how important chart positions were back then.
November 3, 20231 yr Slow is very different to her other singles i agree, i do like slow and enjoy it but its not a huge fave for me and neither is spinning around.
