'Forget You' was a good trick :D I initially thought it was Cee Lo and did think it sounded slightly off, but assumed that was the audio quality or perhaps a dodgy copy of it (I thought the same with the cover of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' you had in a previous quiz). I realised it didn't fit the theme, but thought it could be the red herring. Then the cover came to mind and I compared them and it did sound closer to it. I'm probably lucky that the scene it came from has happened to stick in my mind (IIRC their teacher wanted them to sing 'Sailing' by Christopher Cross and they were getting bored of the adult-contemporary song choices and Gwyneth came in as the more hip substitute teacher and asked what they wanted to sing and Noah/Puck suggested 'Forget You') because otherwise it would be easy to forget it among the sea of songs they covered

I thought the Black Box Recorder clip sounded like US R&B, like I could've seen it being a lesser-known TLC song.

Surprised only 5 people got the theme! I searched the songs I had on Polyhex (particularly since you said it was chart-related but I probably would've tried that anyway) and copy-pasted them into a text file to see if I could spot a connection. I thought it could be something like #31-#40 hits from the 2010s, #21-#30 hits from the 2000s etc but that didn't quite match, and there seemed to be quite a few songs that peaked in their 4th week but definitely not all, then I noticed the #1 and #2 being 1981 and 1982 specifically and it clicked.

I assumed (once it came up in the thread) that the way Estelle related was 1980 being her birth year!

I tried looking at the threads for #3 hits from 1983, #5 hits from 1985 etc (i.e. the ones I didn't have) but trying to guess which song I don't know could be one of numerous mystery clips unsurprisingly doesn't really work - except ironically it did jog my memory on Cher, when I spotted her in the previous year in the #11s list.

And only 4 people getting the order :o My first thought was that it could be the number of words in each title, as the first songs I had were:

Robbery

Hair

Satellite

Funhouse

Forget You

Beautiful

Linger

1979

Only You

Smooth Criminal

Wicked Game

Break My Stride

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic

which happens to fit that perfectly apart from 'Forget You'. Once I worked out another one ('Scared Of The Dark' I think) I knew that wasn't the case, but I felt there had to be something in it being roughly reverse-chronological, so I tried to think of similar things and got the dates of birth idea. I think 'One Too Many' helped by being a recent song placed away from the other recent songs. I was slightly disappointed after looking up the dates for all the ones I had that I didn't have any gaps close enough that I could try looking for artists born in a certain timespan :D

=#6 is pretty good :cheer: A funny reversal in that Dalek won Mango's crossword through the bonuses, but I've tied Dalek here because I got the bonuses :kink: Congrats Mango (again)!

Thanks Julian for running this!

based on 1 listen I would've got Glee Cast
I'm pleased to know this :')

I don't know that Eurythmics song and didn't even listen to the intro to see if it matched, it just sounded like a Eurythmics intro so I just guessed a song of theirs I didn't know and it happened to be right

Congrats Mango and thanks Julian for hosting!

Just catching up with this and woohoo!! I knew I'd done well with getting most of the songs and the theme etc. but I wasn't sure I'd done enough to win! Thanks for a great quiz, Julian, enjoyed working out this one :)

It's just as well I've extended my lead because I've got a feeling I'm going to come a bit unstuck on the Blankety Blank quiz

don't we get extra points for spotting the Cher error? :)
