They may as well just rename this A Year at the BBC (and drop TOTP), a bit like the other shows they do for specific artists :kink:

Always an enjoyable watch this but it is by no means a replacement for actual TOTP on Xmas Day which was a highlight for many

It's another victim of the massive cuts in funding imposed on the BBC by the government. Each song broadcast means having to pay a significant sum in royalties, so they pad the programme out with interviews etc. The same has happened to Later.
I was watching this with my family and the best thing to come out of it was my dad being exposed to 'The Narcissist' by Blur as he enjoyed it

I forgot how good ‘The Narcissist’ is, I must get around to Blur’s new album in full sometime.

It was great to see Ezra Collective get quite a lengthy segment too!

Watching this today I discovered that SZA is pronounced like scissor. I thought it was like Tsar.

I thought it was like Zsa Zsa Gabor's name, so like Tsar but with more of a 'Zh' sound at the start.

I believe her name is inspired by RZA from Wu-Tang Clan (which is pronounced 'rizza').

Watched it. Very heavy on 'heritage acts'. Felt a bit like Clara auditioning for Radio 2. Gonna be seriously pissed off if that's it for Xmas TOTP as we know it for good.

Not a bad way to fill an hour admittedly but it's not like people like Blur, Take That and Elton (performing a song from 1983!) had huge hits you just couldn't escape. Of the interviewees, I feel it's only RAYE who has any chance of maintaining their popularity over the next five to ten years.

But yeah, I get the budget cuts thing etc. There were some laughable in-studio flops masquerading as the year's biggest hits when they were still doing it properly anyway. Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus ain't flying in to do Xmas TOTP almost twenty years after it was axed whatever the weather!

We probably ain't getting anything TOTP-esque back in any way, shape or form. There is absolutely nothing stopping ITV, Channel 4 or Channel 5 doing a weekly or even annual music show even if it's based on a totally made-up chart or no chart at all but they seem to have no interest in it either.
