Can't answer all of those questions but I'll likely be around for all of it! It'll be the most Christmas-heavy chart so I can imagine the weekly top 40 will be recapped and not really touched on.
I always enjoyed them insisting on playing the chart of that week these past few years to listen to the Xmas songs one last time but makes sense to have a chart of the year and will def be listening on her and on R1 so will be fun!

On Friday 29th December there will be no usual Official top 40 Chart.

Instead a 4 hour long Official Chart of the Year, looking at the top 100 singles from 2023. The show starts at 2pm :cheer:

I thought a separate topic will be needed, I'm sure there will a be lot of moaners, with no official chart.

No point having a chart that day anyway as it will be clogged up with Xmas songs and I imagine the top 40 for that week will be published at 5:45pm like it usually is
Will the top 100 chart from that week still be posted as usual on the website? Just no top 40 countdown?

Ain't got a clue bearing in mind some of the staff will be on their Xmas hols, I'm hoping they add the official chart at some point in the evening, better late than never I guess. I do find it a bit annoying, as they could have done top 100 chart over the weekend.

Might do a quick top 20 countdown of the top 40 official chart or something at the end of the show

I ain’t complaining. I’d rather have an EOY chart than a top 40 full of Xmas songs

I thought I put it out there, there are a few that like to whinge

Will it be an updated YTD chart or will it be a week out of date like the Buzzjack ones are?

Guess we’ll find out based on how high/how many Christmas songs there are

I'd guess for broadcast radio they'd be able to put out a completely up-to-date year-end chart. I just hope they make logical decisions on what songs to play and skip like Joseph and I for the past couple of years. But we'll probably end up getting Mr Brightside and Someone You Loved in place of two actual 2023 hits placed lower down the ranking or something like that.

I would expect the Top 100s will be posted on the OCC website at the normal time with zero fanfare from Radio 1. Expect zero midweek updates for that week and the following week too of course as Christmas falls on a Monday.

Anyhow if there's enough interest I think we could get 1-2 hours before the Radio 1 show to play missed cuts on SyncTube as we'd been doing with the Buzzjack-only hosted year-end charts the past couple of years.

(aside - merging this topic with an earlier one as this thread already got made)

It’s being hosted by Gregor Davidson who sounded very good when he covered the chart a couple of weeks ago so should be a good listen!

Great that they're bringing this back. Although I expect many listeners will be even more bemused by the likes of 'Riptide' making the EOY top 50 than they would by a weekly Top 40 packed with Christmas songs after the day itself.

I'd be interested in some sort of adjacent SyncTube session, though for me it depends on what Radio 1 don't play - I suspect they'll play most of the hits actually from 2023 / late 2022 over the perennial clutter, but expect some like 'I Wanna Be Yours' (which have never made an EOY top 100 before) still won't get their moment to shine.

well First Look on Xmas Eve will be 100% Xmas music so that makes sense

but zero point in running the official chart on the 29th because most people don't fancy still listening to Xmas music by then

I listen to Xmas songs throughout Xmas so it’s not strange to hear them on the 29th but get why it would make more sense at radio. By the 29th most people who follow commercial Xmas are looking toward Valentine’s Day and Easter or booking their summer holidays.

Well there'll be an appropriate song for that at #1
