January 2, 20242 yr why anybody on their right mind would want The Highlights to be #1, it's not even a greatest hits, it's a fricking playlist why don't the OCC make a Playlist chart, then the Highlights can be #1 there forever and ever no problemo but has no place in an albums chart
January 2, 20242 yr It literally is a greatest hits album though. It getting more of its streams from other playlists than people clicking on the album itself (which is the case for basically all greatest hits albums' streaming units, not just the couple you always cherrypick to make this point) doesn't change that.
January 2, 20242 yr There's never been any sign of it overtaking Jack Harlow let alone Noah who's now comfortably ahead of both! thanks. Yes, it appears so.
January 2, 20242 yr The Highlights will never go away. It just proves The Weeknd's general popularity. 2x tracks from the huge flop The Idol going into the charts (one of them again) just adds to that. He's huge on name alone. Do we all agree on a 'playlist' picking up streams not being an album, sure. However, The Highlights is also physically available to buy too. If people are streaming his music so much that the weightings are keeping the album in the chart week after week then so be it.
January 2, 20242 yr I'd save the designation for anything that literally only exists as a playlist. "The Highlights" has a vinyl and has spent almost a year on the physical albums chart. Any studio album that didn't *just* come out is also getting the majority of its chart points from streams, who are we to judge where to draw the line on getting too much 'passive listening' (I still hate this term). unless of course everyone is referring to the Hilltop Hoods compilation also called "The Highlights", because I agree that is a playlist.
January 2, 20242 yr "The Highlights" has a vinyl and has spent almost a year on the physical albums chart. Thanks for pointing this out - I've kind of went along with the conventional wisdom that nearly none of its sales were actual pure sales beyond the first couple of weeks without ever fact checking that but indeed it's had 46 weeks in the physical albums chart which is more than all of his studio albums except 'After Hours'! (AH has 70, 'Beauty Behind The Madness' 42, 'Starboy' 25, 'Dawn FM' 14, 'Kiss Land' 2). It's also his 3rd longest runner on the overall album sales chart (39 weeks, behind AH's 74 and BBTM's 51).
January 3, 20242 yr Speaking of the Highlights, it has been crowned the biggest album of 2023 which means that for the first time in history, a non-#1 album is the biggest album of the year like Love The Way You Lie which is a non-#1 single was crowned the biggest single of 2010 Edited January 3, 20242 yr by Hadji
January 3, 20242 yr Speaking of the Highlights, it has been crowned the biggest album of 2023 which means that for the first time in history, a non-#1 album is the biggest album of the year like LTWYL which is a non-#1 single was crowned the biggest single of 2010 'Love the Way You Lie', for those who don't remember 14 year old acronyms
January 3, 20242 yr 4 Christmas songs still in the top 100 #56 You're Christmas To Me #57 Last Christmas #77 All I Want For Christmas Is You #80 Merry Christmas Not Sam Ryder finally above Wham!
January 3, 20242 yr When you ask Alexa for xmas songs now, she plays Sam, but plays Wham right after, so it's close.
January 3, 20242 yr Not Sam Ryder finally above Wham! He was above Wham! in the midweeks last week as well. With the usual caveat of that being primarily because of non-Amazon services delaying their reporting. If anything I'm surprised Sam isn't further ahead right now.
January 3, 20242 yr Update's on the way from MW, good news for my prep purposes is that the resets have been applied

January 3, 20242 yr Out of the top 40 from Monday: Becky Hill & Chase & Status - Disconnect Nicki Minaj - FTCU The resets have only boosted Mitski and Agora Hills back into the top 40 from what I can see so it's not too destructive an impact (not sure what's going on just outside the top 40 of course )
January 3, 20242 yr Happy Prada won't have the number #01 slot after all. A lot thought the song would be number #01 at the beginning of the new year.
January 3, 20242 yr Oh at least we do get to see the resets before the final chart then. (Although still no reset for Sophie yet <_< but then again if she does get a reset it'll be for a different reason so it might still happen on Friday hopefully). I do get why but :drama: that 'Cruel Summer' got the reset while 'Is It Over Now?' didn't. Good to see Drake still top 10, Zach & Kacey still top 15 and J.I.D still just about top 40, hope they can all hold those positions (I'll accept Zach & Kacey being kicked down to #16 by Sophie x). Overall the resets don't seem to have made the chart egregiously staler to the extent they did last year I'd say. Only ~600 copies between Taylor and The Weeknd in the albums *_*
January 3, 20242 yr Looks like the Highlights could finally snatch #1 album and I hope Eliza and Cench can remain in the top 40
