I figure that debate was a setup to get rid of him. No idea how this plays out in terms of who wins. Pretty much up in the air

Not so much a set up, nobody in politics thinks that far ahead - but likely served its purpose as an early warning system in case of this exact situation. Before 3 weeks ago every Democrat was fully expecting and hoping for a reelection campaign and nomination.

I reckon this puts the race firmly with a Democratic advantage, remember they have the advantage in popular vote and Trump's known quantity as a candidate continues to play against him the more he shows up, the main reason we were worried about Biden was he appeared far more senile and out of it than Trump, 'only candidates who could lose to each other etc'.

Very likely it's Harris, I've been impressed with what she's been putting out and keeping message discipline tight, on debates I really don't know how Trump can come at her, and I don't feel that Biden's disapproval ratings really carry over to her, she's got a whole different feel about her as a candidate, energetic compared to Biden's phlegmatism. And if it's not, Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro all look like strong photogenic candidates who can now get a chance to shine - though an open convention would be something to avoid.

nah as a Californian Newsom will probs be a disaster, he literally gets the blame for all of California’s problems like just let this man focus on keeping a state together
Harris will lose to Trump, completely the wrong candidate.
They were losing anyway, but Harris is a good "tactical" candidate. America needs to "tactfully" throw ALL of their support her way and just try and prevent another Trump run at any possible opportunity and then focus on other solutions for the next election.

If they get Michelle Obama in they can win.

If they get Michelle Obama in they can win.
Hasn't she gone on record to say she has zero interest? (I may be wrong though)

omg :cheeseblock:

and YASSSS Kamala get that ticket and COCONUT TREE :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Many, many times. She's the liberal fantasy candidate and it will never happen.

In many areas to the median voter Harris and Obama as a presidential candidate would be similar though. Michelle's a good speaker but so much of candidate quality in how they reach different parts of America is based on identity, and Kamala's got a lot more experience in working within government and as a prosecutor, so a lot more qualified.

We'll see what the polls say once this news settles in but most of the Harris-Trump comparisons that had been done before now were more positive than Biden-Trump ones anyway for how well this will go.
Historic win for Trump, due to Kamala's unpopularity. He should have choden Warren or Bernie as running mate originally.
Good. Now find someone competent to replace him - not Kamala Harris.

Bernie! Clinto-Bernie id also acceptable.

Omg yes, thank you Joe for stepping out!!!

Fully supporting Madame President now <3

I’m sure now all the red states will try and sue democrats for replacing Biden this late, but I’m hoping and praying everything will run smoothly!!!

Good to have this confirmed, but I worry if it's too late. Biden should've never been in the running to do a second term and the debate performance confirmed that, Dems should've been prepping someone younger and more popular to take over once his tenure was done. Doing this all now when the circumstances are really in Trump's favour is worrisome.

I'm hopeful that Harris can at least turn the narrative around and make it very clear who the older, less suitable candidate for the job is and focus on the swing states, but I worry about her popularity levels on the top of America's usual insitutional racism & sexism. I'm remaining pessimistic, but at least a little bit less than last week.
