January 11, 20241 yr Sini Sabotage :cheeseblock: you know you want to Finland (I just checked her Wikipedia and no one bothering to add any of her other releases to that article beyond the debut album in 2013, poor hen)
January 11, 20241 yr Having heard at least something by all of these (being a Finn), the list is fairly interesting but also fairly mid in talent. It's all about the quality of the songs of course. Edited January 11, 20241 yr by Sour Candy
January 11, 20241 yr Author UnQa-s03msI It's... decent. Not the best Elize Ryd written song I've heard initially (and I've heard a lot of those) but would fit the bill of a 'normal' rock song, compared to 'Hurricane' it does feel quite a bit weaker. Which is making me realise how hard it might actually be to follow up Cha Cha Cha.
January 12, 20241 yr I watched the unveiling live. Absolutely here for YLEs international outreach Going to be very challenging I think to follow up Käärijä, they really found an absolute fire gem there and I don’t think we’re going to see the same this year. Dancing with Demons is feeling like multiple songs in one. The start captured my attention and I thought was quite promising, especially when you get that rock/metal guitar coming in. But the chorus is a little bit off for me. The vocal melody seems unconnected to the actual instrumental to me. Verses are super strong tho and the middle 8 is lit (and the chorus after it actually works for me! Especially the more acapella one) Mania is out now as well. It’s pretty solid but I’d probably be disappointed if that’s what was sent.
January 13, 20241 yr My ratings so far: Vox populi (7/10) Dancing With Demons (7/10) MANIA (5/10) Cyan Kicks is alright and well-produced, but not remarkable. I think the staging will play an important role to elevate song.
January 15, 20241 yr Author 'Paskana' is a pretty good Finnish pop song, probably doomed but I won't say no to a good one of those 'Glow' just debuted too, would be quite a different sound for Finland but very modern and fun: IiN_CLyYj64
January 16, 20241 yr Paskana is alright. Not bad but not setting the world alight. I absolutely loathe the first verse of Glow. His voice is so grating. First chorus onwards is much much better and it becomes a really great song until that „you’re gonna make you’re gonna make“ bit where the annoying voice is back
January 18, 20241 yr Kuori Mua is the best song of the Eurovision season so far for me, she’s giving mid 00s Luciana/Princess Superstar vibes but polished and elevated for 2024, really hope she can win the selection.
January 18, 20241 yr Author Windows95man with his Eurodance thing though, that could be... interesting. Definitely loving Sini Sabotage's entry too, mostly what I expected, not quite as hard-edged as some of her material but that's good for getting her new fans.
January 19, 20241 yr Author final song is out, Mikael Gabriel, it's... there. Sara Siipola is leading this poll from a Finnish newspaper website and she's also top on Finnish Spotify (though the latest update on Kworb doesn't yet have Sini or Mikael). I know from previous experience that the leader on these metrics doesn't always win, sometimes it just points towards a big domestic hit, but I'd be there for it. So basically I'm not yet sure which out of 'Paskana' or 'Kuori Mua' is my favourite here, both would be strong entries but perhaps not a big hit for Eurovision (don't think Finland really has one here sadly), and 'Dancing With Demons' and 'MANIA' wouldn't be bad either. 'Glow' is a little behind the other 4, but still good (not that it'll win though). I wouldn't take 'Vox Populi' at all, and after thinking about 'No Rules' a bit it just comes off a bit cringe really.
January 19, 20241 yr Yeah this seems more like a "new hit for domestic market" type of thing than ESC this year. But whatever wins the selection should at least qualify for the big final in the ESC.
January 21, 20241 yr Kuori Mua having basically no chance is devastating :( Paskana is alright and should do ok at Eurovision if it wins though.
January 21, 20241 yr My rating: 1. Kuori mua (8/10) 2. Paskana (7.5/10) 3. Glow (7/10) 4. Vox populi (7/10) 5. Dancing With Demons (7/10) 6. MANIA (5/10) 7. No Rules! (3/10) Top 5: 7.3/10 Overall: 6.36/10 Overall a solid selection of songs! I just didn't vibe with No Rules! :(
