January 21, 20241 yr If you're accepting S Club Party then can definitely include Spice up your life, both of them use part of the bands names. "S Club" can only refer to S Club 7, just as "Muppet" can only be The Muppets. 'Spice up your Life' has no direct reference to The Spice Girls, in fact, semantically, it does not refer to the group at all, it is telling you to go out and have a good time.
January 21, 20241 yr Is this the logic that has left out Stray Cat Stut? Also since we've included Kate's live EP and Four (More) From Toyah, Queen's First E.P reached number 17 on the UK singles chart in July 1977 Edited January 21, 20241 yr by Severin
January 21, 20241 yr Is this the logic that has left out Stray Cat Stut? Also since we've included Kate's live EP and Four (More) From Toyah, Queen's First E.P reached number 17 on the UK singles chart in July 1977 No, you are right, Stray Cat strut should be included, it clearly refers to the artist and not any feline; No 11 in 1981. (Loved the group, especially Runaway Boys). Queen's Good Old Fashioned Loverboy did indeed reach No 17 in 1977 and yes, it was included on the First EP; however, it was also released as a single and both the OCC and my copy of Record Mirror lists the entry as GOFL and not the EP. Interesting one. Thank you.

Interesting one. Thank you. To add further intrique the Guinness Book of Hit Singles (which was the chart bible pre-internet) always listed it as the EP and never as a single, which was why it came to my mind. I've double checked that to be sure and it says EP only. I looked up Discogs too and there's no listed UK release for GOFL as a 7" single, yet I would expect one to be there for a band as successful as Queen - https://www.discogs.com/master/1442037-Quee...hioned-Loverboy Additionally although the UK release of the EP lists the title on the sleeve (always a 7") as Queen's First EP, the label doesn't make any reference to EP. It may well be that the OCC have somehow reclassified the release in later years. https://www.discogs.com/master/6341-Queen-Queens-First-EP

You might want to go through the thread and check. If we're now including self-titled EPs then you can also add The Monkees EP (#33, 1980) and I'm sure there'll be lots more. He did say in an earlier post the list was top 20 only. Not sure why but that explains a number of omitted releases
January 22, 20241 yr He did say in an earlier post the list was top 20 only. Not sure why but that explains a number of omitted releases Ah OK, I missed that. Probably explains it then, ignore me!
January 22, 20241 yr I would suggest the Acid House classic, Stakker Humanoid, by Humanoid fits the criteria
January 22, 20241 yr I'd say self titled EPs shouldn't count, unless there is a song titled like the artist/band If not, Massive Attack also had a Massive Attack EP per the OCC in 92
January 22, 20241 yr Not a 100% fit, but what about Scatman John with Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop) and Scatman’s World?
January 22, 20241 yr I don't know what the intention is behind the OP but if it was me, I'd restrict it to songs which have exactly the same name as the artist, otherwise there are going to be loads!
January 22, 20241 yr I don't know what the intention is behind the OP but if it was me, I'd restrict it to songs which have exactly the same name as the artist, otherwise there are going to be loads! I agree with this. Narrowing the criteria makes it more pertinent. It also rules out extreme (ridiculous) examples - For example the band A had a hit with Sing-A-Long And if you drop the definite article from The Specials to enable Specials to work, you should apply that to all bands that use it - and where does that leave The The? Indeed. And you are never ignored. Update coming, adding Wham! Soulja Boy & Bamboo. Apologies to Lil Bow Wow and Scatman John, where their names are incomplete in the song title. Thanks to everybody and for thinking up the thread. Edited January 24, 20241 yr by Tuttavilla
