I did actually love the Lostprophets song in back in 2004, but I couldn't include it for obvious reasons :(

Hoping The Smile's album has somehow stayed top 2 but definitely expecting #3. Not sure if there's much I care about going on in the singles chart this week but we'll see!

Biography

There’s a great moment in Ice Spice’s Up Next film where you can see her hanging out a car window in the Bronx and waving to a park full of screaming fans. It shows not only how effortlessly she can work a crowd, but how well the untouchable cool of her online persona translates into real life. “When I’m outside and I hear my music playing—like, just random people walking by—I still get excited like the first time,” she told Apple Music. “Like, I expect to see it online and streaming, and seeing people enjoy it at home…but when you see people outside doing it? It’s different.” Like the song says: In the hood, she’s like Princess Diana—genuflect accordingly. Born Isis Naija Gaston in the Bronx on January 1, 2000, Ice Spice fell in love with MCs like Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim as a kid and picked up her dad’s faves like JAY-Z and Wu-Tang along the way. Though initially associated with the Brooklyn drill scene, her style is both mellower and more melodic, splitting the difference between the attitude of classic hip-hop and the sparkly playfulness of viral pop (“Munch [Feelin’ U]” and “Princess Diana,” from her 2023 debut EP Like..?). She’s funny and talented and she knows it. “Munch”? “I was really trying to rhyme a word with ‘lunch,’” she said. Suuuure. “It’s for the baddies that get it, for the confident people, for the people that get money,” she added. “It’s just music to feel good to.” - Apple Music

The Kid LAROI

HEAVEN

170x170bb.jpg

3rd single from THE FIRST TIME

Released: 26th January 2024

Label: Columbia Records

Video

Biography

In an Apple Music interview from mid-2020, The Kid LAROI reminisced about the short but formative time he spent in LA living with the late emo rapper Juice WRLD. They’d hang out all day, bonding, making music, seeing friends, whatever. People always coming and going, never a dull moment. Sometimes, Juice would wake LAROI up in the middle of the night, wild with excitement about a track LAROI had to put a verse on. Other mornings, LAROI would wake up to his and Juice’s managers saying it was time to pack up and head to Texas. Like, now. He was 15, 16 years old. “I’d never experienced anything like that,” he said. “Especially coming from Australia, where everything is kind of like its own bubble.” Not that 15-year-olds outside Australia would be used to it either. But such is the meteoric ascent of a talented young rapper circa 2020. Born Charlton Howard in 2003, LAROI—whose name is a reference to the Kamilaroi Indigenous nation, in which he has family roots—grew up in the suburbs of Sydney, and began to work on music when he was a pre-teen. Like Juice WRLD, Post Malone or even Lil Peep, LAROI’s key tracks—“ALWAYS DO”, “TRAGIC” and the Juice WRLD collaboration “GO”—blend ultra-melodic trap with shades of alternative rock and classic pop, a fusion that has put him on the front burner of pop-rap. His first album, F*CK LOVE, hit the Top 10 before he turned 18. - Apple Music

Biography

Sam Fender crafts the kind of tenacious anthemic rock that punches straight at the gut. Born and raised in 1994 in the northeastern English town of North Shields, the singer/songwriter first picked up a guitar at age 10 and began playing gigs locally as a teen to help support him and his mother. But it wasn’t until he started writing music for himself—rather than what he thought others wanted to hear—that everything started to click. That’s when he wrote his 2017 debut single, “Play God”, a propulsive, politically charged slice of indie rock. It came from a place of deep desperation, “a time where I was like, ‘I need to prove myself. I need to do something that cuts through,’” he told Apple Music. The track earned him a slot on BBC’s Sound of 2018 shortlist, which led to a deal with Polydor Records and the release of his acclaimed 2019 debut, Hypersonic Missiles, an album that channels modern-day anxiety through heartfelt heartland rock. His 2021 follow-up, Seventeen Going Under, hit even harder, pumped full of soaring arrangements and bold statements that continue to prove Fender’s power as a mighty millennial voice for the working class. - Apple Music

Biography

As Noah Kahan changes, he casts those experiences onto songs like light through a film projector. At the core of the music’s upbeat energy and unfiltered lyrics, you’ll hear who he was before and who he became — almost in real-time. The Vermont singer still pens songs straight from the heart and still cracks jokes with his signature, self-deprecating sense of humor; he’s just changed in all of the right ways (and chronicled them via his songwriting). He gained that understanding through quite the journey from small town Vermont to global renown. He’s racked up over one billion streams, released two full length albums (Busyhead, 2019 and I Was/I Am, 2021) and a mid-pandemic EP (Cape Elizabeth, 2020), picked up a Gold Certification for “Hurt Somebody” feat. Julia Michaels, and performed on television shows such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and TODAY. Not to mention, he’s collaborated with everyone from Joy Oladokun to Chelsea Cutler to mxmtoon to Quinn XCII to Gryffin. After 5 years of critical acclaim and global touring, he sought an even purer style of writing and arrangement, a challenge from within to convey a vivid representation of what he loves, fears, and struggles with most passionately. Now, Noah continues to progress with his highly anticipated new album Stick Season out now. - Spotify

Biography

After building up buzz independently and attracting a growing fan base, Ohio singer, songwriter, and artist Michael Marcagi announces his signing to Warner Records. Today, he unveils his new single, entitled “Scared To Start.” On the anticipated new track, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response on TikTok, bright guitar echoes through a steady tambourine-driven beat. Marcagi’s dynamic delivery takes hold on the verses, while his storytelling immediately transfixes. “‘Scared to Start’ is a song for the adventurers, the travelers, and the people who look forward without dwelling on the uncertainties of life,” Marcagi says of the track. “It's about taking the risks and putting yourself out of your comfort zone, regardless of what the rest of the world has to say.” Michael recently made waves with his first solo single, the fan-favorite “The Other Side.” Since its release last month, the track has gathered millions of streams and counting. Right now, he’s preparing more music for release in 2024. Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Michael Marcagi arrives with an emotional and engaging tale to tell. He emerges out of the heartland as an eloquent, artful songwriter and captivating storyteller with a whole lot to say. - Warner Records
