in the US, country radio stations are playing Texas and is charting in the country charts, so I'd say it's more than country-tinged, otherwise they wouldn't play it

Would Beyonce's album actually be classed as a country album? I know everyone's talking about 'Texas Hold 'Em' being a country song but let's be real, it's more country-tinged or country-influenced than full on country. It's a bit like saying Kylie's Golden was a country album.

What nonsense... country singers are even claiming Beyonce's song is way more country than most of the songs on country radio in the US.

Why would anyone say it's merely 'country-tinged'?

Texas is definitely country with pop influences, but I don’t think Texas is going to be representative of the album as a whole if BMS and Act 1 is anything to go by. It’s probably the most radio friendly song on the album which is why it’s the lead single. I suspect the album will be a lot more rooted in the history of country and its foundations which form the bedrock of country than any other country album released in quite some time. Beyoncé is not going to do a half-assed country album. If she’s going to do it, she’s going to do it properly.

Wait for the album.

In theory both statements could be true. Some of the country hits I've heard recently:

Jelly Roll - Need a Favor (sounds like a Nickelback song)

Keith Urban/Carrie Underwood - The Fighter (a disco song, full on pop)

Gabby Barrett - I Hope (sounds like a Kelly Clarkson song)

Bebe Rexha - Meant To Be, Sam Hunt - Body Like a Backroad, Morgan Wallen - Thinkin' Bout Me (all of them have trap beats)

Zach Bryan - I Remember Everything (I don't exactly know what genre this is but I wouldn't have said country if I didn't know who the artist was and how the song has been marketed)

Taylor Swift - I Can See You (sounds like a Maroon 5 song from 20 years ago)

Beyonce's song can be both country-tinged and still more country than most of the songs on country radio in the US, because so many of the songs being played on country radio today often have little resemblance to the genre as it originated. But in comparison to what other songs can get passed as country music there is little excuse to exclude Beyonce's songs from country radio and country awards.

Just noticed that PET NEEDS only have 17k monthly listeners! Very impressive that they could have a Top 10 album while having that small streaming reach.
I don't see the big deal on what the genre is defined as

The point of Beyoncé stepping into this genre is because the alleged purpose of her album trilogy is to celebrate and 'reclaim' genres that were created by black people but later co-opted by white people who pushed them either out of the genre completely or back into the recesses. The first album was dance/house, this album is country and the third album is rumoured to be rock.

We're already seeing large impacts on the success of black women in country music. Many are seeing giant sales and streaming gains that they've never seen before, opportunities for interviews etc. It's important to acknowledge that Beyoncé is doing country music, not 'country-inspired' or 'country-ish' music.

Some trance legends also stated that Calvin Harris' Miracle (and its Hardwell Remix) was trancier than most trance songs played at the festivals last year.

If you ask 50 country fans what "country" is, you'll get 50 different answers

To me though, I'd consider all of those examples as country bar 'The Fighter' and 'I Can See You' - although most of them (including Beyonce) are country-pop more than anything (with Jelly Roll being country-rock). Zach Bryan is probably the closest there to "traditional" country.

Some trance legends also stated that Calvin Harris' Miracle (and its Hardwell Remix) was trancier than most trance songs played at the festivals last year.

But then equally a lot of them were also up in arms that Calvin was going round calling it a trance track

zach bryan is as country as you can get
