It's 25 years since 'Nothing Really Matters' was released as the fifth and final single from 'Ray of Light'. It was written with long-time collaborator Patrick Leonard and later produced with William Orbit and Marius De Vries. The song was inspired by the birth of Madonna's daughter, Lourdes, and explores the effects motherhood had on her outlook of fame and life. It became a Top 10 hit in Canada, Finland, Greece, New Zealand and UK, including #1 in Hungary and Spain, however its lack of airplay and delayed physical release in the US resulted in a #93 peak on the Billboard Hot 100, Madonna's lowest position to date. The music video was directed by Johan Renck and drew influence from Arthur Golden's novel 'Memoirs of a Geisha', portraying Madonna in red kimono as she dances to her own unconventional choreography.

Always loved the song and the lyrics !!

The tour made me revisit it a lot last year!

The remix on FEL is also incredible.

This was the era Madonna could do no wrong. Great track and loved some of the remixes.

Yes, yes and yes!

It's a great moment on the album, the dance-driven beats evoke the sound of early-90s Madonna so it offers a more familiar, lighter moment compared to the other songs, and lyrically it acts as a great centerpiece as it sums up the influence of the album in a more condensed way. The distorted, static sound at the beginning resembles to me the disorder of Madonna's life before the birth of Lourdes and I love the slightly melancholy feel of the middle 8.

It's been one of Madonna's underrated songs for years which is why I'm so glad to see it get some recognition from being the opening song on the Celebration Tour. I love how it incorporates the Club 69 remix that features on 'Finally Enough Love', one of my favourite remixes!
