February 29, 20242 yr Where was murder on the dance floor yesterday Played at the end of Match of The Day last night.
February 29, 20242 yr It's disturbing to see so many people in this thread enjoying it. I think it says alot about a person who likes such trash as Kayne. I went off the guy when he started bullying the disabled (as a disabled person myself i found it very offensive) and then he came out as a rasicts and a bigot who goes to steal music without permission. The guy hates people like me. Edited February 29, 20242 yr by kimberley88
February 29, 20242 yr I find the argument so lame that it's ok to separate the Artist's actions in their personal/public lives from their art/music. I disagree, for me it's not ok. I've not listened to a Kayne or a Michael Jackson (amongst many others) record for years, and I really loved Kayne's early stuff. For me, to listen to their records, to buy or stream them, would be to condone their lifestyle choices, their opinions etc. Edited March 1, 20242 yr by Dante77
February 29, 20242 yr You can make a case against many artists. From even pop ones like Ariana to various rappers and quite a few rockstars too. Look at the 1965 and Matty Healy for example. Kanye attracts more attention because he is so brazen about it but so many artists have objectionable things. I mean R Kelly and people like this might be a different level than the rest but someone like Kanye it’s just opinions he’s never done anything criminal to my knowledge. Overall it seems iffy to try to insult people listening to Kanye when I’m sure there is someone everybody listens to with a bit of sketchiness about them. Some of the things Eminem used to say was pretty insane when you think about it.

I don't think it's fair for people on here to criticise other people's choices though (not you!), people can make their own decisions about whether they separate the art from the artist or not. Personally, I am no Kanye fan anyway. The antisemitism and ableism isn't okay at all, it should never be accepted, but I've also never been a fan of his music beyond a couple of really good features (American Boy will always be elite). I do know, though, that some see immense merit in his music, especially his first few albums (but also the recent stuff too), and I don't think it's up to anyone else to say they shouldn't be listening to that any longer. Some of my personal favourite artists have made poor choices over the years - Jo O'Meara and Cheryl from my two favourite groups, and Justin Bieber, to name a few - but the music is where my heart is at, no matter what. Sorry for derailing the thread slightly but I thought it was important to bring this up as it wasn't sitting well with me that others on here were being called out for liking, at the end of the day, the music they like - nobody's openly supported Kanye's offensive and upsetting actions and words on here, and that would get a very different response from me.

February 29, 20242 yr I could write a lot more but I'll keep it brief. As a longtime Ye fan (haven't really been seeking out the current album, mind), I've seen decades of hatred spewed out to him for such trivial, pointless reasons. I've had this article saved from 2015 about a 100,000+ strong petition to take him off Glastonbury because he's a rude, obnoxious person...with the suggestion they should have a Gallagher headline instead(!), which certainly wouldn't see the same outrage*. Once you're at the point of trivial bickering, it can get in the way of fair criticism, both for Ye and his fans. In general I've never been able to shake the feeling that a lot of cancel culture is pushed by people who are more in the interest of getting rid of someone they don't like, rather than altruism. Like, you can't boycott something you were never using in the first place. Obviously not defending Ye's recent sayings & doings, though I can see how we got here. *You can say 'oh well clearly they were right in hindsight', but hindsight isn't the point here.
