The Fred Again../Lil Yachty/Overmono and Charli XCX songs are both sounding pretty banging so it's great to see them starting off well on Apple!

Excited by the prospect of Overmono achieving a top 40 single ~ their debut album Good Lies was one of my favourites of last year

Apple top 100:

34 Fred again

42 Charli

48 Olly A

Break My Soul was definitely huge, peaks can be deceiving in this day and age. I think I’ve mentioned this in the past, songs like It Girl didn’t even go top 40 but their cultural impact was still huge. Break My Soul felt unavoidable in the summer of its release.

I’ve never even heard of this song, not sure it had a huge cultural impact?

It's a song by Aliyah's Interlude, peaked at #57 last year so its impact wasn't huge on a wide scale but within particular circles it must have been.

Once you do listen to it you'll never get it out of your head

Sex on Fire at #48 for some reason. I know it made the YE last year but seems like quite a random large jump

Spotify:

Really impressive for Charli, maybe coming for her biggest solo hit from one her own albums since 'Boom Clap'? It does look like 'stayinit' will probably scrape in the top 40 as well! Good that people have realised that 'Doctor (Work It Out)' is absolute trash and decided to not make it a hit, yet... Overjoyed with that debut for Twenty-One Pilots as well :cheer: Certainly not their most commercial offering but it is a banger!

#52 Stayinit

#73 Doctor (Work It Out)

#74 Dizzy

#82 Overcompensate

#86 Cuban Links (Skrapz X Nines X D Block Europe)

#158 Lighter

Pretty weak numbers for all the new songs except one. Beyonce has 1 rapped up again
Interesting to see the full version of Overcompensate enter rather than the edit that’s being pushed on the playlists. It’s a shame we won’t see where they would place when combined!
Why Spotify user addiction to stick season gone stuck top 5 yet agin on acr new music struggle once agin does take biscuit streaming not done another help new music

Or maybe the new songs are not that good / interesting EVERY week.

You should probably give up on the charts for the sake of your own health at this point

I'm kind of shook at Pharell/Miley sort of flopping, there had been a lot of hype for it online. I honestly thought it was coming for a Top 10 debut!

I'm not that bothered though, the song is trash.

Streaming's been included in the chart for almost a decade now, and it's been known from the start that new music takes time to peak on streaming. It'd be lovely to see more new music making the chart but it's just not how streaming works unless you're a big name and/or a long-awaited viral track. Some of this is probably the fault of Spotify and their playlisting with most of the bigger name releases not on Hot Hits UK yet, but I don't think anyone can be shocked at the lack of new release impact each week at this stage.

Yeah but when it's a name as big as Miley and coming off her Grammy's win, a lot of goodwill for her and a lot of hype on Twitter/TikTok, I think it's fair to be somewhat surprised no?

I'm realistic too - I wasn't shocked at for instance Selena not doing well last week or whatever.

Sorry, you posted at the same time as me more or less, my post was @ DJ Cheeky Magpie! My bad for forgetting to quote.

On the topic of Pharrell & Miley, I did think they'd be doing a little better on curiosity if nothing else, although I suppose Pharrell has no real precedent for smashing out the gates these days and he's the primary artist so it balances out I guess.
