July 25, 2024Jul 25 Not too impressed with this, there are a lot of huge songs missing for I presume licensing reasons (Starship, Bee Gees, Madonna, MJ, Fleetwood Mac and the rest). Quite a few fillers, and that Eurythmics song 5th on Disc 1 and the Sting track 4th on Disc 3 are sequenced too early. I can't fathom why you'd open a disc with This Corrosion? And It's A Sin should probably be on over What Have I Done To Deserve This (and why is Dusty listed in the title and not as an artist?) Edited July 25, 2024Jul 25 by gooddelta
July 25, 2024Jul 25 They have a song on there which peaked in 1986. Cry Wolf peaked in December 1986 so should’ve been on the 1986 yearbooks and my local Asda had both Now 118 and Now 18 stocked up today so obviously I’m gonna buy them Edited July 25, 2024Jul 25 by Hadji
July 28, 2024Jul 28 I listened to Now 118 on the plane yesterday all the way through (having added it to my iPod, which I still use ) I did think it felt more hit packed than recent editions, maybe because the charts have been so slow recently. But I do feel like the absence of Shaboozey, Central Cee, Coldplay and Majestic felt notable. The latter is a surprise miss, it doesn't feel like one that would be hard to get but who knows. The first disc I enjoyed a lot but Disc 2 felt pretty weak. They should spread the hits out more to help the peaks and troughs, because it's a bit tedious that outside the first five songs, the only real hit of note on the entire rest of the disc is 360, so it was a bit of a slog. It doesn't have to be a hit to be a great song, but many of these are not. I realised I'd never even heard the songs by Bon Jovi, Snow Patrol, d4vd, Nathan Evans and Liam Gallagher & John Squire, but that's probably on me to pay closer attention to the Radio 2 playlist (although I doubt d4vd was on that so I must have just missed that one!).
July 28, 2024Jul 28 I’ve also noticed on the yearbooks that they include songs on there when they peaked in a different year. YMCA peaked at the end of 1978 and got placed on 1979, Step It Up peaked in 1992 and got placed on 1993, Should I Stay Or Should I Go peaked in 1991 and got placed on 1982, Cry Wolf peaked at the end of 1986 and got placed on 1987 to name a few examples
July 28, 2024Jul 28 They've done that many times before with the Anniversary and thec the Millennium editions.
July 28, 2024Jul 28 They've done that many times before with the Anniversary and thec the Millennium editions. The reason why Step It Up only appeared on 1993 is so they could include Connected on 1992 but for the yearbooks, both songs should’ve been on the 1992 yearbooks. They did it with Good Life on 1989 so they could include Big Fun on 1988. They only did it deliberately so they could spread the songs out. The one I disagree on was including Young At Heart on both 1984 and 1993 on the 10th anniversary series and they did it with You Sexy Thing on both 1987 and 1997 of the millennium series and to top it off, both appearances were the 1987 remix like they included the 1987 remix on both Now 9 and Now 38. They should’ve included the original version on Now 38 and Now 1997 Edited July 28, 2024Jul 28 by Hadji
July 30, 2024Jul 30 They’re apparently releasing a 5 LP box set called Now Presents The 80s and it’s due for release on 6th September
July 30, 2024Jul 30 Author They’re apparently releasing a 5 LP box set called Now Presents The 80s and it’s due for release on 6th September Well of course they are, we hardly ever get 80's compilations from them these days. Do you really think one person anywhere in the world, just one, would see a release like this, pick it up and realistically say "I've been looking everywhere for a copy of Karma Chameleon and now I can finally own a version of this song for the very first time..." How can the same songs from the same era be appealing to shoppers year after year? Those who buy just to add to their Now collections in all formats (not me however) are being robbed out of all their wages, and for what exactly? If artists are firmly set on restricting the licensing to their songs from any time after the 80s then they need to put a limit on how many times their music can be recycled on a compilation series. They would soon have more fans if they allowed the rest of their back catalogues to be opened up to a wider audience in the future.

I wish they milked the 00s the way they milk the 80s and I was hoping that they’d announce either Vault 1984 or Now Millennium 2008-2009 and besides, I can make my own mp3 version of Now Presents The 80s seeing as I’ll most likely have all songs already Edited July 30, 2024Jul 30 by Hadji

July 30, 2024Jul 30 I don’t think licensing is the reason why the UK don’t get Taylor Swift. If it was, then she wouldn’t be appearing on the US series and they get Shaboozey and we don’t. I hope they include him on Now 119 seeing as they chose not to include him on Now 118 Edited July 30, 2024Jul 30 by Hadji
July 31, 2024Jul 31 Not so sure that is official, the cover and tracklist artwork look very fan made. Also if they had got Taylor she’d be track one I’m sure. https://nowmusic-us.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000068808
July 31, 2024Jul 31 It makes me wonder if the US series is still going as they’d have announced Now 91 by now
July 31, 2024Jul 31 Well I have heard that NOW 91 is not happening and that artwork is fan made and isn’t correct. Jeff Moskow (who does the tracklist for NOW Music US) haven’t been told or even complied for an tracklist for NOW 91. So possibly it won’t happen anytime soon
