Eastern Asia is this year’s route, and the five intrepid duos will battle it out in a breath-taking 15,000 kilometres race across several countries. From northernmost Japan, they will cross six seas and eight borders, skirting the path of the volcanic ring of fire - the most geologically unstable region on the planet to reach the finish line in Lombok, an idyllic Indonesian island paradise.

 

The teams include: two mother and daughter duos, Brydie and Sharon and Eugenie and Isabel; best friends, Alfie and Owen; married couple, Stephen and Viv and brother and sister, Betty and James.

I love this show, extremely happy that it’s back again. Love that it’s East Asia too

So happy this is back next week! I didn't love S3 as much as S2, and the lineup is feeling a little STALE, but the location seems like it has the potential to be excellent.

I enjoyed 3... but yeah it wasnt quite as good as the first 2 series. But then whilst Canada is amazing, the fact they could hire cars and at times there was only 1 road/ mode of transport they could take. It killed some of the race drama.

 

Enjoying Series 4 - however I can't see Eugenie and Isabel doing the full race at the rate they're burning money.

 

Alfie and Owen are messy af but want them to do well :D

 

Also was funny at the end of yesterdays ep, however everyone had checked in barring Brydie and Sharon who were still 370km away and on a job just enjoying themselves. I guess anything can change (as 24 hour+ leads have been overturned before), but I would say they need a massive miracle to catch up. Once they reach the check point, they have to stay there for 72 hours. Think in the preview they are eliminated 1 couple at the end of the next ep too.

 

Yep it definitely suggested next week was an elimination week... which is gutting as I really don't want Brydie and Sharon to go as they both seem so lovely. I'm not really feeling Stephen and Viv at the moment so would be a lot happier to see them leave, I'm liking all of the others to some degree though.

 

 

I agree that Series 3 wasn't quite as good, I don't like it as much when there's only one train or ferry a day or something as it concertinas everyone too much. I did love Tricia and Cathie though as contestants and was so delighted when they won.

Yes, I think S3 was compelling primarily down to the couples, whereas so far I'm feeling the opposite with S4 - the location/journey is fantastic, but the couples aren't doing much for me. Steven and Viv would be my 'preferred' couple of leave, mainly because I'm not sure how much of her SUFFERING IN SILENCE to his madness I can take.

Part of me thinks that Stephen and Viv will end up winning by taking things slowly, but surely.

Although kind of funny how the leading 2 teams both have lost their maps. Although you'd think it would be easy for them to pick up some form of map in one of the many stations they go in

 

Shame about Brydie and Sharon leaving... had they not stopped for that job they'd probably have been safe. Funnily too they seemed to be the most on top of their budget.

 

Barring Stephen and Viv and oddly Alfie and Owen the other 2 teams seem to be haemorrhaging money at every turn to the point I can't see all the remaining teams making it another 5 legs.

I am enjoying this but omg there's something so annoying/smug and irritating about Stephen & Viv. I can't stand them.

This is the first (regular) series of this I've watched! I've also not warmed to Stephen and Viv much, but I like the other teams. Absolutely no forward planning with their budgets though... :drama:

I can only assume that they didn't really do a great deal though as I feel like they've barely been shown throughout the series compared to the others, including their last episode. I'm slightly worried about the rate the brother/sister team are going through their budget, they were so unlucky this episode with their work stop not being feasible, then being stuck in a village and losing time, then being forced to spend a lot on a taxi to get back on track.

I'm rooting for James & Betty now, though I'm really liking Alfie & Owen now too.

Yeah I think they're my favourite two teams also. Alfie & Owen seemed to completely change this episode, found it difficult to believe they would go from being so focused on racing and budgeting in all the other legs to suddenly diverting off left right and centre for trips and burning through their budget

I think they were going to have to change tack at some point. Being heavy into race mode at the beginning wasn't sustainable, they'd have gotten tired for one.

Yeah they couldn’t have kept up just racing and seeing nothing; although that seemed more Alfie’s stratagy

 

Stephen and Viv seem to have the best budget and are in the lead, so it seems to be there’s to lose at this point - although still another 4 legs to go, so anything could happen.

We've had a few "cliffhangers" this series. Pretty sure they had that last year too, with a team that was very far behind.

Hoping that Betty and James can overtake the two static teams and get second place.
